Explained: Why Delhi NCR Is Not Experiencing The Signature Winter Cold Wave

A third of December has already passed, but the intense winter chill has not yet arrived in the Delhi-NCR region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released data on Thursday showing that the maximum temperature at Lodhi Road between Wednesday and Thursday morning (8:30 AM) was 25.4 degrees Celsius, which is 2.4 degrees Celsius above average. The minimum temperature was also 8.6 degrees Celsius, 0.6 degrees Celsius above average.

This warmer-than-usual trend has continued throughout Delhi-NCR this month and is forecast to continue for the next week.

Dr Naresh Kumar, a senior scientist at the India Meteorological Department, told NDTV, "The increase in cold weather depends on Western Disturbances, as these bring dry, cold northwesterly winds to Delhi and parts of Northwest India. There has been no active Western Disturbance this season so far, which is why a cold wave has not yet been recorded in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas."

According to the IMD forecast, a western disturbance is expected on December 13th, but it will be weak. It is only expected to bring rain to some parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Naresh Kumar projects that the minimum temperature in Delhi may rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next week, making the weather even more pleasant. The minimum night temperature is expected to rise to 9-10 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department said in its latest report on Thursday that the minimum temperature remained below 5 degrees Celsius at several places in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad during the last 24 hours.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions prevailed at some places in West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Cold wave conditions also prevailed at isolated places in Punjab, Vidarbha, North Interior Karnataka, and Telangana.

In fact, cold wave conditions have prevailed in Western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha for the past six days, but Delhi-NCR will have to wait for the true winter chill.

Hrithik Roshan Praises Dhurandhar Despite 'Disagreeing With Its Politics'

Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, which crossed the Rs 100-crore mark within its first week, has received widespread praise from both audiences and industry peers. Among the latest to appreciate the film is Hrithik Roshan.

Hrithik took to his Instagram Story to share a detailed review of the film. He expressed deep admiration for the cinematic language and the intensity with which the story was told.

"I love cinema, I love people who climb into a vortex and let the story take control, spin them shake them until what they want to say is purged out of them onto that screen. DHURANDAR is an example of that. Loved the storytelling. It's cinema," he wrote.

Hrithik also noted that while he connected strongly with the film's execution, he did not fully align with its political stance.

He added, "I may disagree with the politics of it, and argue about the responsibilities us filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world. Nevertheless, can't ignore how I loved and learnt from this one as a student of cinema. Amazing."

Umpire's No-Ball Blunder Hands Bumrah 100th T20I Wicket? Internet Divided

Jasprit Bumrah on Tuesday became the first Indian player to take at least 100 wickets each in all the three formats. He is the fifth player overall to achieve the feat. The star fast bowler achieved the milestone on the second ball of the 11th over in the India vs South Africa 1st T20I in Cuttack. South Africa's Dewald Brevis was his 110th victim as he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Bumrah went short and around off, and Brevis' wild shot got a top edge, with Yadav taking a clean catch at cover. However, there were some question marks over the delivery's legality. The umpires checked for a front-foot no-ball, but the third umpire ruled it a 'fair delivery' as it was deemed that some part of Bumrah's shoe was behind the crease.

The internet was not convinced, as several social media users claimed it was a no-ball. Commentator Murali Kartik said the camera angle was not conclusive enough to prove it was a no-ball and that the benefit of doubt should be given to the bowler. However, another commentator disagreed with him. Even if the delivery was a no-ball, Bumrah would have reached the 110-wicket milestone as on the fifth ball of the 11th over, Bumrah took his second wicket of the match in Kesshav Maharaj.

Talking about the match, Hardik Pandya smashed a sparkling unbeaten 28-ball 59 as India defeated South Africa by a massive 101 runs in the first T20I on Tuesday.

Returning to international cricket after recovering from a quadriceps injury, Pandya smashed six fours and four maximums to lift India to 175 for six.

Tilak Varma (26) and Axar Patel (23) also chipped in with useful contributions after South Africa asked India to bat first.

In reply, South Africa folded for 74 in 12.3 overs, with Dewald Brevis (22) emerging as the top scorer. It was South Africa's lowest-ever score in T20I cricket.

For India, Arshdeep Singh (2/14), Varun Chakaravarthy (2/19), Jasprit Bumrah (2/17), Axar Patel (2/7), Shivam Dube (1/1), and Pandya (1/16) were among the wickets.

Earlier, Lungi Ngidi (3/31) and Lutho Sipamla (2/38) shared five wickets for South Africa.

Brief Scores: India 175 for six in 20 overs (Hardik Pandya 59 not out; Lungi Ngidi 3/31).

South Africa 74 all out in 12.3 overs (Dewald Brevis 22; Axar Patel 2/7).

TN Theatre Owners Ask A-Listers Like Rajinikanth To Take Salary Cuts

It was just about a year ago that the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association placed three demands before the state government - an increase in ticket prices from Rs 220 to Rs 250, an eight-week mandatory gap between theatrical and OTT releases, and permission for theatres to host other commercial activities similar to malls.

Unfortunately, these demands have not been met, and Tamil Nadu theatres are now in crisis mode, stated Tirupur Subramaniam, head of the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association. He added that he has called for an urgent meeting of theatre owners on Tuesday to discuss the next steps.

On Sunday, Tirupur Subramaniam, who has often been vocal about the state of the Tamil film industry, alleged that the theatrical business is currently in crisis. Speaking to the media, he said that in the post-COVID period, the large sums paid by OTT companies for content caused star salaries to skyrocket, with some charging exorbitant fees of around Rs 140 crore (apparently referring to Ajith and Vijay).

He added that producers gave in to the demands of stars and directors, and along with rising production costs, this resulted in many corporate production houses facing severe losses and even going bankrupt. As a consequence, theatres are struggling to make profits, and in some cases, they are unable even to break even, he alleged.

The present four-week theatrical-to-OTT window, he said, has also hurt theatres. With producers earning substantial profits from OTT sales, theatres are suffering from a lack of films and quality content. Subramaniam also advocated profit-sharing models for actors instead of high upfront salaries and urged that entourage costs be reduced.

According to him, many theatres have not screened any films over the past few months due to the absence of major Tamil releases, and the situation may worsen in 2026 as only two big films - Vijay's Jana Nayagan and Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 - have been confirmed so far.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala explained that the tussle between the Producers' Council and the Theatres Association has been ongoing for several years.

He told NDTV, "This time the theatres association has stood its ground since, for the last few months, there have hardly been any releases in the B and C centres. Many producers have restricted their releases to Chennai alone, which means B and C theatres have no content. As a result, most theatres have remained shut and operate only on weekends. Producers too face issues as OTT platforms have drastically reduced acquisition rates. If producers agree to extend the window to eight weeks, they are likely to receive even less money from OTT. At the moment, both producers and theatres are facing serious challenges."

It was only in November this year that the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) held a general body meeting and finally set a minimum theatrical-to-OTT window. According to the mandate, films featuring A-list stars must maintain an eight-week gap between theatrical and OTT release, while films with B-list actors must observe a six-week gap.

The TFPC has also requested A-list stars such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush and Suriya to adopt alternative payment models rather than demanding full salaries upfront, as the current system has become unfeasible for producers. However, whether the stars will agree to this and how soon these mandates will be implemented remain major questions.

Tamil producer and distributor G. Dhananjayan, who is part of the TFPC, spoke to NDTV about the concerns raised by Tirupur Subramaniam. "Some producers are not releasing films in B and C centres because there are no collections, and they end up incurring unnecessary costs. Audiences there come only for big-star films or films with strong word-of-mouth. Other films do not generate revenue, so producers are requesting distributors to release films only in A-centres and multiplexes," he said.

On the topic of star salaries, Dhananjayan said that even producers want actors to be more reasonable in their demands. "The market today is unpredictable, and we cannot foresee which film will work. But most actors assume every film will be a hit and demand the same salary. We are requesting stars to link their fees to satellite and digital rights - we will pay a portion upfront, and once digital and satellite sales are completed, we will pay the remainder; otherwise, they must accept a pay cut. Today, even big films are struggling to sell their digital and satellite rights. When it comes to OTT platforms, it is now the producers chasing them, not the other way round. It is no longer a seller's market. OTT platforms are selective in what they acquire, and if we demand an eight-week gap to OTT, producers lose even more money. Look at Hindi cinema - Hindi films also release on OTT after eight weeks, but that hasn't improved the performance of small and medium-budget films in theatres. That is the question we have as producers."

Following the TFPC meeting in November and the proposals they put forward, it now remains to be seen what demands the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association will present to the state government on Tuesday.

"Creating Divisions For Political Gains": MK Stalin Slams BJP On Deepam Row

Chief Minister MK Stalin made a veiled reference to the Karthigai Deepam controversy at Thiruparukundram today, accusing the BJP of politicising a religious issue.

In Madurai to attend official and party events, the Chief Minister accused the BJP of indulging in divisive and malicious politics, while asserting that the DMK is focused solely on development.

"Opposition parties are attempting politics with malicious plots. When we speak about development, they speak of something else. I am saying firmly that no matter how many conspiracies are made, we will defeat them. Such tactics will not work with Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin," he said.

He also invoked the legacy of Kannagi, the legendary heroine of Silapathigaram, who fought against the unjust execution of her husband, Kovalan. Madurai, he said, is the soil where Kannagi once roared for justice against a hasty judgment passed without proper investigation.

He reiterated that the Karthigai Deepam ritual at the Thiruparukundram Murugar Temple was conducted as per long-standing tradition and that the state government was never against spiritual practices.

"Our aim is to develop Tamil Nadu. But some parties have a riot mindset. They are attempting to derail our growth by raising needless issues. Karthigai Deepam was lit at the traditional spot, following all norms. They carried out everything properly. Local residents know this well; they all worshipped and went home," he said.

Stalin questioned why it became a "sudden issue" and who was creating it.

"Spiritualism is about peace and unity. Creating divisions for political gains is not spiritualism. It is cheap politics. Since we formed the government, we have conducted Kumbabishekam for more than 3,000 temples. If such a government is labelled anti-spiritual, people will clearly understand the motive behind it," he said.

Criticising the Central government for rejecting Metro Rail for Madurai and the long-pending AIIMS project, he accused right-wing groups of disrupting Tamil Nadu's growth by stoking unnecessary controversies.

The BJP, meanwhile, questioned the state government's failure to follow the court order, and accused the DMK of engaging in vote-bank politics.

The row over Thiruparukundram continues. Tamil Nadu's appeal petition is now before the Supreme Court. A contempt petition related to the issue is pending before the Madurai single bench, while the appeal against the single bench order on lighting the Deepam is before the division bench.

The legal battle is expected to intensify, with hearings scheduled for next week.

How The Smriti Mandhana And Palash Muchhal Wedding Saga Played Out

Palash Muchhal has broken his silence on his delayed wedding with cricketer Smriti Mandhana. In a statement shared on his Instagram Stories, the composer confirmed that the wedding has been called off.

The two were set to marry on November 23, but plans were halted after Smriti Mandhana's father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered a medical emergency. Around the same time, Palash was hospitalised with viral symptoms and severe acidity, forcing the couple to indefinitely delay the celebration.

As fans react to the announcement, let us take a quick trip down memory lane and revisit their relationship journey:

Secret Dating

Smriti and Palash reportedly began dating in 2019, connecting across their different careers through shared passion, creativity, and dedication to their work. As time went by, their friendship bloomed into a romantic relationship. Despite keeping a relatively low public profile for several years, they would occasionally share glimpses of each other on social media.

Dating Confirmation

The couple's relationship gained official confirmation in July 2024 when they celebrated their anniversary with a heartfelt post on Instagram. In the picture, they were seen cutting a cake and posing together.

The Proposal

Days after the Indian Women's Cricket Team's 2025 World Cup win, Palash proposed to Smriti at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The composer also did a tattoo reveal that showed Smriti's initials and jersey number imprinted on his hand.

Smriti also shared a video - which is no longer visible on her Instagram page - where she was seen proudly displaying her engagement ring. She was surrounded by her teammates as they danced to the Samjho Ho Hi Gaya song from Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

Wedding Functions

The wedding celebrations for Smriti and Palash began on November 21 with the sangeet and haldi ceremonies, which were held at a resort in Sangli, Maharashtra. The couple was scheduled to get married in Smriti's hometown, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The wedding was postponed after Smriti's father's health scare.

Smriti Mandhana And Palash Muchhal Call Off Their Wedding

Family members from both Smriti and Palash's sides initially reassured the public that the wedding was merely postponed and would happen soon. The speculation surrounding the couple's relationship grew when wedding-related posts were removed from Smriti's social media accounts.

However, Palash Muchhal shared a long note on his Instagram stories., confirming that he is no longer getting married to Smriti Mandhana.

He wrote, "I have decided to move on in my life and step back from my personal relationship. It's been very difficult for me to see people react so easily on baseless rumours about something which has been most sacred to me. It's the most difficult phase of my life, and I will deal with it gracefully, holding on to my beliefs. I truly hope we, as a society, learn to pause before judging someone based on unverified gossip, whose sources are never identified. Our words can wound in ways we may never understand."

He added, "While we think about these things, many people in the world are facing drastic consequences. My team will be taking strict legal action against those spreading false and defamatory content. Thank you to everyone who has stood by me with kindness in this tough time."
