5 Killed, Many Trapped As House Collapses After Powerful Blast In Ayodhya

At least five people died and several others were injured when a house collapsed following a loud explosion at a village in Ayodhya this evening. Several people are still feared trapped under the debris and rescue work is in progress.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked senior officials to go to the spot, ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, and oversee the rescue and relief operations. The injured have been sent to the district hospital.

The blast had sounded alarm bells, coming a day after a scooter blast in Kanpur in which eight people were injured. But initial reports indicated that the blast could have been a firecracker
explosion. The police now say it could have been a gas cylinder blast.

A forensic team has reached the spot. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police are present at the scene.

"It seems it was a gas cylinder blast or a cooker blast in a kitchen. but we can be definite only after forensic tests," said Nikhil Tikaram Funde, the District Magistrate of Ayodhya.

"The news of the death of 5 people due to the blast in Ayodhya is extremely heartbreaking. Immediate arrangements should be made for the proper treatment of the injured, and an investigation into the matter should be conducted," read a post by Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

"Attackers Said They Were Didi's Men": BJP MP On Assault By Mob In Bengal

Khagen Murmu, the BJP MP attacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress goons, has vehemently refuted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's assertion that the locals at the flood-hit Jalpaiguri area where he had gone two days ago to distribute aid, had attacked him. Murmu and BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh were set upon by a group of men, who, he said, were brought from other places, including Delhi, to block the entry of the BJP leaders.

Videos of the attack on the two leaders and images of a profusely bleeding Murmu have been widely circulated on social media. Describing the attack as a "law and order situation," Mamata Banerjee had said, "I don't want to politicise it. But if you take 30-40 cars inside a village that has lost everything, what can you expect?"

Lying on his hospital bed, Murmu questioned how big a convoy can four MPs and a similar number of MLAs take. "How many cars were there? There was one MP or one MLA in each car, along with a few people from our district. So how many cars could have been there? They saw a 40-car convoy. They did not see that so much blood was shed," he told NDTV's Padmaja Joshi in an exclusive interview.

Describing how the attack took place, he said the crowd had accosted them where they had gone.

"They were saying, 'We are from the TMC, we are Didi's men. We are here. Why have you come? The BJP has no business here," he said. Unnerved by the mob, most of the leaders got away, but there was no space for Murmu and Ghosh in the boat.

"They attacked us...  They pushed us and beat us, threw stones at our car, breaking the front and the back windshields," he said, pointing out that the attack has been well-documented.

The injuries he sustained would take time to heal, he said. "Doctors said another couple of months," he said. "A stone hurled inside my car hit me on the cheekbone, breaking it. I could even lose my eye, doctors said," he added.

The attack has become a huge flashpoint between Bengal's ruling party and the BJP. Even though two men have been arrested, the row continues.

Today, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose gave the Chief Minister a 24-hour 'ultimatum'. Banerjee must restore law and order immediately or face possible constitutional action, he told NDTV.

Chinese Woman Swallows 8 Live Frogs To Treat Back Pain. This Happens Next

In a shocking case, an 82-year-old Chinese woman swallowed eight small live frogs believing it would alleviate her lower back pain caused by a herniated disc as she relied on a folklore remedy, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.

Unfortunately, this unconventional method led to severe abdominal pain, and the woman, surnamed Zhang, ended up hospitalised in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province.

"My mother ate eight live frogs. Now the sharp pain has made her unable to walk," her son told the doctor as quoted in the report.

As per the report, the elderly woman had suffered from a herniated disc for a long time. She asked her family to catch some live frogs for her when someone told her that swallowing them could help relieve her lower back pain.

Her mistake was to believe this bizarre theory, as there's no medical evidence supporting this claim.

Meanwhile, her digestive system collapsed after swallowing live frogs, with parasites like sparganum infecting her body. She experienced intense pain, making it hard to walk.

She was admitted to a hospital in Hangzhou, and doctors conducted a physical examination on her. The medical experts found a dramatic increase in oxyphil cells, which indicates many illnesses, such as parasitic infections and blood disorders.

Doctors also conducted a few detailed tests. "Swallowing frogs has damaged the patient's digestive system and resulted in some parasites being present in her body, including sparganum," a doctor from the hospital informed the media.

After two weeks of treatment, she was discharged from the hospital.

'Admire Lawyer's Courage': BJP Leader's Shocker On Chief Justice Shoe Attack

Even as the attack on the Chief Justice of India BR Gavai has drawn criticism from all quarters, the lawyer's attempt to throw his shoe at the top judge of the country has received praise from a BJP leader.

Bhaskar Rao, Karnataka BJP leader and former Bengaluru Commissioner, said that he "admires" the courage of the lawyer for taking a stand and "living by it".

In a breach of decorum, the elderly lawyer threw a shoe at the Chief Justice during a court proceeding. The shoe did not reach the bench, and the man was caught and escorted out by security personnel present in the court.

The lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, was suspended by the Bar Council of India (BCI) hours after the incident.

Kishore, however, showed "no regret". He posted a screenshot of an article on the bar council's action against him and captioned it, "No regret, no sorrow, no repentance".

Rao's remark was in response to this post on X.

"Even if it is legally and terribly Wrong, I admire your courage, at your age, to take a stand and live by it, irrespective of consequences," he wrote in the comment section of Kishore's post.

His remark drew sharp criticism from Congress leader Mansoor Khan. "Even if it's legally and terribly wrong, you admire his courage? Coming from a former IPS officer, this is shameful. You once upheld the law; now you stand with someone who insulted the Chief Justice of India. What a fall," he wrote in a response to Rao's comment.

Earlier today, Kishore justified his action and said that he was hurt by the Chief Justice's remarks during the hearing of a plea seeking restoration of the structure of Lord Vishnu in the Javari temple in Madhya Pradesh's Khajuraho.

"I did not do it; God did. The Chief Justice of India mocked Sanatan Dharma. This was the Almighty's order, a reaction to an action," he said.

Last month, a bench led by Chief Justice Gavai dismissed the petition plea seeking directions to reconstruct and reinstall the idol of Lord Vishnu at the Javari temple. The temple is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Khajuraho complex.

"This is purely publicity interest litigation.... Go and ask the deity himself to do something. If you are saying that you are a strong devotee of Lord Vishnu, then you pray and do some meditation," the Chief Justice had said.

His remarks had drawn ire on social media. Taking note of the criticism, he later said that he respects "all religions".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday strongly condemned the attack on the Chief Justice and said that it had "angered every Indian".

Several other leaders across party lines also strongly condemned the incident. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has issued a firm resolution condemning the conduct of the advocate who disrupted proceedings in the courtroom of the Chief Justice of India.

Chakravarthy Reveals Gambhir's Reply When Asked About ODI Selection

Unarguably one of the pillars of India's T20I team, Varun Chakravarthy played a pivotal role in their triumph at the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2025. Varun, a mystery spinner, has worked with head coach Gautam Gambhir for a long time. The two were together as player and mentor when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in the 2024 season. With Gambhir as his coach in the Indian national team, Varun enjoyed success in the Asia Cup, becoming a key wicket-taker in the bowling unit. However, the player is yet to take his career beyond the shortest format, with chances in ODI cricket being limited while Tests aren't even in sight.

Answering a query by NDTV on the sidelines of the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai on Tuesday, Chakravarthy spoke about the conversations he had with coach Gambhir about his ODI career. During the chat, Chakravarthy revealed that Gambhir has advised him to bat higher in the batting order while playing domestic tournaments, and also try to bowl longer spells.

"Basically, the conversations were around bowling longer spells. Because in T20, you maximum bowl two overs back-to-back. But in ODI, you have to bowl five to six overs back-to-back, which I did work on and I was able to do it in the Champions Trophy," Chakravarthy said.

"Nothing much and definitely, he wants me to bat a little more up the order in the domestic circuit and improve on my batting," he added.

When asked about his ambitions in Test cricket, Chakravarthy said that he is open to play in all three formats for India and is preparing himself for the same.

"It's again selection. I would like to play every match India is playing but it's up to the selectors," he responded to the query.

Chakravarthy also spoke about Gambhir, the coach, describing him as a 'spartan' who always wants to go for the kill.

"I have already worked with him in the IPL and we won that IPL, so nothing new to me because I have already been around him. But definitely one thing which I can say about him is he brings a 'Spartan' mentality to the team where there is no option of losing, you just have to bring your best and give everything on the ground and later on, whatever happens, happens. But when he is around, there is no mediocrity, you can't be mediocre in the field, that's what I feel," he said.

KBC 17: Big B Recites Famous Zanjeer Dialogue, Javed Akhtar Praises Him

Kaun Banega Crorepati has been going strong ever since it returned for its 17th season. Hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the quiz-based reality show continues to welcome contestants eager to win impressive prize money.

In the latest promo of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, actor Farhan Akhtar and his father, screenwriter Javed Akhtar, were the honorary guests who took the hot seat. This upcoming episode would be a special occasion as  Amitabh Bachchan would be celebrating his 83rd birthday on October 11.

The promo began with Amitabh Bachchan greeting Farhan and Javed Akhtar warmly before cutting a cake with them. But the show-stealer moment arrived when Big B recreated an iconic dialogue from his blockbuster 1973 film Zanjeer.

With his signature charm and commanding presence, Amitabh Bachchan recites, “Jab tak bethne ko naa kaha jaaye khade raho, yeh police thana hai, tumhare baap ka ghar nahi (Until you are told to sit, keep standing. This is a police station, not your father's house).”

Watching the Bollywood megastar's perfectly effortless dialogue delivery, Javed Akhtar appeared impressed. Farhan too applauded in admiration, while the audience erupted in loud cheers and applause.

Watch the full video here:

Zanjeer, directed by Prakash Mehra, was written by the legendary duo Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan. Besides Amitabh Bachchan, this crime action drama also featured his wife, Jaya Bachchan, Pran, Ajit Khan, and Bindu in crucial roles. Big B slipped into the shoes of Inspector Vijay, a tough and honest police officer, in this movie.

Amitabh Bachchan and Javed Akhtar's association dates back to the 1970s. Javed Akhtar and Salim Merchant co-wrote several films together that shaped Big B's popular “angry young man” persona at a time when romantic heroes were ruling the film industry. Some of these movies include Deewaar, Sholay, Trishul, and Don

Kaun Bangea Crorepati 17 premiered on August 11. The show airs on Sony TV from Monday to Friday at 9 pm. It is also available for streaming on the Sony LIV.

'Gill Didn't Want Captaincy, BCCI Pressurised Him': Kaif Drops Bombshell

Former Indian cricket team star Mohammad Kaif believes that Shubman Gill was pressurised into becoming the ODI captain. In a decision that divided opinions, Gill replaced Rohit Sharma as the skipper ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Australia. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained that the team management were looking to give Gill enough time to settle down as captain in time for the 2027 ODI World Cup. As a result, Gill is currently the Test and ODI captain for the Indian cricket team while serving as the vice-captain of the T20I side. Kaif warned against 'overburdening' a young player like Gill and even hinted that selectors, including Agarkar, forced him to take the captaincy.

"This was on expected lines, but I felt this would happen after the 2027 World Cup. The guy has quality, and he's also worked on his fitness. He had a realistic chance of playing the 2027 World Cup. However, the load falls on Gill. He's getting all of it in a hurry. It could also lead to a loss. When you get so much in such a short time, it could backfire," Kaif said in a video posted on YouTube.

"My point is that don't overburden him. He captains in Tests, bats at No. 4. He was made the vice-captain in the Asia Cup – will take over when Suryakumar Yadav steps aside. Now you've made him the ODI captain. I feel everything is being done in a hurry. A player never asks for captaincy. Everyone knows that he didn't want it. You can't demand it, but everyone seems to like him a lot and considers him a captain for the future. The selectors, including Ajit Agarkar, have pressurised him."

Rohit was included in the squad for the Australia ODIs but he will not have any leadership role in the side.
