Part-Time Worker Reveals "Scary" Reality Behind Blinkit's 10-Minute Delivery

The rise of quick commerce companies like Blinkit, Instamart, and Zepto has revolutionised the way people shop, making it an integral part of modern life. These platforms promise fast and convenient delivery of groceries and other essentials, often within minutes. However, behind the scenes, the workers who make this convenience possible face significant challenges. A recent Reddit post by a part-time Blinkit worker has exposed the harsh realities behind India's growing demand for 10-minute delivery.

"We all love the idea of getting groceries or snacks delivered in 10 minutes, but most people have no idea what goes on behind that 'ultrafast' service. The pressure on workers is next-level — and honestly, kind of scary," the post on Reddit read.

The worker, who balanced his job as a picker and packer with studies, shared his firsthand experience of intense pressure, frequent accidents, and unsafe working conditions. According to the post, workers are under constant stress, with supervisors exerting "crazy, non-stop pressure" and a timer system called PPI (per picking item) that adds to the strain.

The worker described the warehouses, known as dark stores, as small and cluttered with racks and items. Employees are expected to run, not just walk quickly, while picking orders, navigating through crowded spaces and sharp corners, and racing against time. The worker shared personal experiences of accidents, including a collision with another employee that resulted in a broken phone.

"I've had a few accidents. Once, I collided with another guy and broke my phone. These kinds of things happen almost daily because it's all rush and no safety. We had to follow a timer called PPI (Per Picking Item). If it takes even a few extra seconds to find an item (maybe it's misplaced or out of stock), the manager tells you to log out and go home. The pressure from higher-ups is crazy, and managers just pass it on to the workers," he added.

Worked part-time at Blinkit — 10-minute delivery sounds cool, but the reality for workers is brutal
byu/Automatic_Demand_802 inindia

Full-time workers affiliated with Blinkit faced even harsher conditions, with the Reddit user highlighting the additional burden of manually unloading two to three large trucks daily and restocking the cold rooms.

The user further revealed that working conditions are unsafe, with workers navigating tight spaces all day, leading to frequent accidents. The environment takes a mental toll, with constant pressure and no respite. There is zero tolerance for delays, and even a small mistake can result in termination. The compensation is inadequate, considering the risks, stress, and treatment workers endure, making the job unsustainable.

"All this effort and stress… just so someone can get a Coke and Maggi in 10 minutes? Not saying convenience is bad. But this system isn't built on efficiency — it's built on pushing workers to their limits. If deliveries took 15 or 20 minutes instead, would that really be so bad? Feels like we're chasing speed without thinking about the people actually doing the work," he added.

The post sparked widespread concern among users, with many expressing shock at the harsh working conditions described. Some suggested they'd willingly wait longer for deliveries if it meant easing the pressure on workers. Others drew comparisons to labour conditions in other industries, questioning the necessity of 10-minute delivery and labelling it a marketing gimmick that prioritises convenience over worker welfare.

One user wrote, "I'd be happy to get the stuff in an hour, to put less pressure on workers - planning isn't that hard, and fostering a culture when anything can be had immediately is not doing us any good as humans. Thank you for raising awareness - unfortunately, little will change imo."

Another commented, "This 10-minute thing is just exploiting India's labour problem, and also taking advantage of the Indian society's collective impatience."

A third said, "Yes, it's dumb, and pressuring workers for some made-up metric I never asked for. What the f do I care if the Swiggy guy takes 10 or 25 minutes, or even more? I want them to drive safely and not feel stressed, and possibly get into an accident where they hurt themselves or someone else. If I need something in 10 minutes, it will be something like dahi, and I can just run down to the shop. Let these people have lives too, they shouldn't constantly have to stress."

"Sonam Claimed She Was Drugged, Brought To UP": Top Cop On Honeymoon Murder

Sonam Raghuvanshi was arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, when the newly married couple were on their honeymoon in Meghalaya. What started as a probe to find the couple, who went missing on May 23, turned into a murder investigation when Raja's body was found in a gorge on June 2. The search continued for Sonam.

A week later, the woman, who was missing, "surrendered" to the cops in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur, which unravelled many chilling details in the case. Speaking to NDTV, UP Police's Additional Director General (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash made several revelations regarding the case, including Sonam's claim that "She was drugged and brought to Ghazipur" to present herself as the victim.

Mr Yash said, "Sonam presented herself as a victim before the police, claiming she was drugged and brought to Ghazipur. She informed her family about this, knowing the police would eventually reach her. Around 3 am on Monday, she told her family that she was at a dhaba on the Ghazipur-Varanasi road. Her family immediately contacted the Madhya Pradesh police, who informed the local police, leading to Sonam's arrest. She was sent for a medical checkup and then to a One-Stop Centre. The Meghalaya police are now interrogating her and completing legal formalities."

'She Is A Very Poor Planner'

The investigation, which stretched for two weeks from May 23, reached a climax when she was caught in Ghazipur. Meghalaya cops believe she was in an extramarital affair that led to Raja's murder. She orchestrated the murder in connivance with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, and surrendered under pressure on June 8, according to them. Both were later arrested.

Mr Yash said, "Sonam is a poor planner. She lacked knowledge of police procedures and thought she could escape by posing as a victim, but she failed. The Meghalaya police have done excellent work and are currently handling the case. If they seek assistance, we will provide it."

Uttar Pradesh has not joined the probe, and the case is being investigated by Meghalaya Police. The senior UP police officer said the woman, now a prime suspect in the case, came to Ghazipur alone, adding that "CCTV footage and other evidence are being examined, and the truth will soon emerge."

"This case is unique due to the extensive planning to avoid detection by taking the body to Meghalaya and dumping it in an inaccessible location. However, the plan failed," he added.

Raj Kushwaha, Sonam's alleged boyfriend, is also a suspect in the case. The victim's family said Raj was Sonam's employee, and they would speak on the phone a lot, claimed Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi's brother. "I've never seen Raj Kushwaha; I've just heard his name," he told ANI.

While he didn't accuse Sonam directly of the murder, he said she could be involved in the murder if Raj Kushwaha was involved.

The police official, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, who cracked the case, in an exclusive conversation with NDTV, described how the police tracked her down.

Mr Syiem told NDTV that there is substantial evidence to implicate the victim's wife and her alleged partner, Raj Kushwaha.

Raja and Sonam got married on May 11. They left for their honeymoon on May 20. A day later, the couple were in Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya.

"You Better Turn Back": Israel Warns Greta Thunberg On Gaza-Bound Yacht

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz told the military on Sunday to stop a charity boat carrying activists, including Sweden's Greta Thunberg, who are planning to defy an Israeli blockade and reach Gaza.

Operated by the pro-Palestinian Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), the British-flagged Madleen yacht set sail from Sicily on June 6 and is currently off the Egyptian coast, heading slowly towards the Gaza Strip, which is besieged by Israel.

"I instructed the IDF to act so that the Madleen ... does not reach Gaza," Katz said in a statement.

"To the antisemitic Greta and her Hamas-propaganda-spouting friends, I say clearly: You'd better turn back, because you will not reach Gaza."

Climate activist Thunberg said she joined the Madleen crew to "challenge Israel's illegal siege and escalating war crimes" in Gaza and highlight the urgent need for humanitarian aid. She has rejected previous Israeli accusations of antisemitism.

Israel went to war with Hamas in October 2023 after the operatives launched a surprise attack on southern Israel, killing more 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages back to the enclave, according to Israeli tallies.

More than 54,000 Palestinians have died during the ongoing Israeli assault, according to Gaza health authorities, with much of the Palestinian territory reduced to rubble. The UN has warned that most of Gaza's 2.3 million population is at risk of famine.

Katz said the blockade was essential to Israel's national security as it seeks to eliminate Hamas.

"The State of Israel will not allow anyone to break the naval blockade on Gaza, whose primary purpose is to prevent the transfer of weapons to Hamas," he said.

The Madleen is carrying a symbolic quantity of aid, including rice and baby formula, the FFC has said.

FFC press officer Hay Sha Wiya said on Sunday the boat was currently some 160 nautical miles (296 km) from Gaza. "We are preparing for the possibility of interception," she said.

Besides Thunberg, there are 11 other crew members aboard, including Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament.

Israeli media have reported that the military plans to intercept the yacht before it reaches Gaza and escort it to the Israeli port of Ashdod. The crew would then be deported.

In 2010, Israeli commandos killed 10 people when they boarded a Turkish ship, the Mavi Marmara, that was leading a small flotilla towards Gaza.

Couple On Honeymoon Missing After Car Falls 1,000 Feet Into Sikkim River

A newly married couple from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district went to Sikkim for their honeymoon. 15 days on, they are yet to return home.

Kaushalendra Pratap Singh and Ankita Singh, who got married on May 5, left for Sikkim on May 24. On the evening of May 29, what was supposed to be a blissful vacation turned into a nightmare for the couple and their families. The car they were travelling in fell 1,000 feet into the Teesta river in the landslide-hit Mangan district.

The car skidded off the road near Munsithang along the Lachen-Lachung highway.

Among the nine others travelling with them, one died and two were injured. Eight passengers are still missing. The driver, Passang Denu Sherpa of Singhik in North Sikkim, died on the spot while Swayam Supratim Nayak and Sairaj Jena from Odisha were rescued on the night of the accident.

Kaushalendra Pratap Singh's father, Sher Bahadur Singh, is in Sikkim to look for his son and daughter-in-law.

"My son and daughter-in-law are missing after their vehicle fell into a stream in Sikkim. I appeal to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to request his Sikkim counterpart to expedite the search and rescue operations," Mr Singh, with folded hands, appealed through a video message.

He said that he would not return home till he finds them.

"It's our eighth day here. We visited the accident spot several times. Whatever things have been recovered from the spot, nothing belongs to my son and his wife. I won't return home till I find them. I request everyone to pray for the lives of my son and daughter-in-law," he added.

The search for the missing eight tourists is being carried out by personnel of the NDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Department, Tourism Department, TAAS (Travel Agents Association of Sikkim), and police. However, bad weather is hindering the rescue work.

Among the other missing tourists, four are from Odisha - Ajit Kumar Nayak, Sunita Nayak, Sahil Jena and Itshiri Jena and two from Tripura - Debjyoti Joy Dev and Swapnanil Deb.

US Man Kills And Dismembers 19-Year-Old College Student On First Date

A 34-year-old man in the US has been found guilty of killing and dismembering the body of a 19-year-old girl on their first date after the two watched an episode of a Netflix series with an eerily similar theme. According to the New York Post, Maxwell Anderson killed Sade Carleena Robinson in April 2024 after the two met for dinner. They went to a restaurant and a bar before Anderson invited her to his home in Milwaukee. This was the last time Robinson, a criminal justice student at Milwaukee Area Technical College, was seen alive.

The 19-year-old was reported missing the next day, when she didn't show up for her shift at a pizzeria. The police checked her home and found no trace of her. Then, on the same day, cops found her sawed-off leg on the shores of Lake Michigan, as per the outlet. They also found additional body parts, including a foot and human flesh, scattered throughout the city.

Prosecutors showed bloodied photos from Anderson's phone to prove he was the teen's killer. One deleted picture recovered by investigators captured Anderson holding Robinson's chopped-off right breast.

The jury was told that Anderson committed the heinous crime after he watched a Netflix animated series named 'Love, Death & Robots' with Robinson. One of the episodes in the series showed a dismembered corpse, which was discovered on the beach, similar to Robinson's body.

Cops also found a "sex dungeon" in Anderson's home after his arrest. In his basement, he had a "sex sling, restraints and handcuffs," police said.

Other photos on Anderson's phone included pictures of the 19-year-old inside his home. The jury described the pictures as graphic and disturbing. "That was pretty damning evidence that shook everyone. I physically felt like I was gonna throw up at that point. I know a lot of people were shaking and crying," juror Melissa Blascoe said.

Anderson is believed to have planned Robinson's killing for months, creating a space covered in a plastic tarp, the Post reported.

After committing the brutal killing, he drove Robinson's car around Milwaukee for some time before parking it in North Milwaukee and setting it on fire.

The 15-member jury took 45 minutes to reach a guilty verdict. Anderson was ultimately found guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and arson. No motive for the killing was revealed during the trial.

The 34-year-old now faces a mandatory life sentence, but Judge Laura Crivello could sentence him to additional extended supervision.

Signs Of Thaw? Sachin Pilot Meets Ashok Gehlot, Invites Him To Family Event

It is a picture that speaks more than a thousand words.

Sachin Pilot went to Ashok Gehlot's residence on Saturday to invite him to an event commemorating the 25th death anniversary of his father and former Union Minister Rajesh Pilot, and the meeting has political circles abuzz.

Adding to the buzz is the fact that the meeting lasted over an hour and both the Congress national general secretary and the former Rajasthan chief minister - who have had a frosty and acrimonious relationship for years - posted about it on X.

Mr Pilot later told reporters his visit to the former chief minister's residence was simply to invite him to the event, which will be held on Wednesday.

Mr Gehlot, however, posted a video of the meeting, going on to state that he and Rajesh Pilot were elected to the Lok Sabha together in 1980 and had a long association lasting 18 years. He also said he was still saddened by Rajesh Pilot's sudden death in 2000, which he described as a big blow to the Congress.

Observers said Sachin Pilot, who also shared a photo of the meeting, displayed great magnanimity in reaching out to Mr Gehlot who, in the past, has gone to the extent of calling him 'nikamma' and 'nakara' ( variations of 'useless').

Rivalry

The Congress colleagues have been political rivals ever since Mr Gehlot pipped Mr Pilot to the post of chief minister in 2018. This was despite Mr Pilot, as Congress president, being seen as having revived the party in Rajasthan after a rout in the 2013 Assembly elections.

The younger leader then had to settle for the deputy chief minister's post.

While tensions had been simmering, matters came to a head when Mr Pilot opened a front against Mr Gehlot's style of leadership in 2020. There have been two factions in the party ever since, but the acrimony has ebbed and flowed.

All Eyes On Event

Sources said Rajesh Pilot's commemoration event is being keenly watched as the attendance will help gauge who is in which faction.

"If Mr Gehlot decides to attend on Wednesday, it could well be a sign that the thaw in the Rajasthan Congress is here to stay. If not, it could perhaps be advantage Sachin, who made the first move by inviting the senior leader to a personal function," said a source.
