Hours After Killing Cash Van Guard, Robbers Shoot At Man In Another State

After shooting the guard of an ATM cash vehicle in Karnataka's Bidar on Thursday afternoon and escaping with Rs 93 lakh in cash, two robbers opened fire at another person in Hyderabad hours later.

The latest victim, who works as a manager at a private travel firm, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. An alert has been sounded in the entire city and efforts are underway to arrest the accused, the police added.

The incident took place at Afzal Gunj area when the robbers were preparing to board a bus to travel to Raipur.

Sources said the two men arrived in Hyderabad on a bike after committing the murder and robbery in Bidar and then visited a private travel agency's office to book tickets for a bus to Raipur.

The agency's owner, Rais Ahmad, told reporters that the two men visited his office between 3pm and 4pm.

"One of them introduced himself as Amit Kumar. Their bus was scheduled to leave at around 7pm. We usually inspect luggage if we find anything suspicious. When our manager, Jahangir, asked them to open their bag, the accused took out a few bundles of notes and tried to bribe him. When Jahangir insisted on seeing the contents of the bag, the accused opened fire at him and subsequently escaped," Mr Ahmad said.

Jahangir underwent a surgery and is recovering in a hospital, he added.

Earlier in the day, the two men shot dead an ATM cash vehicle guard and injured another as they looted Rs 93 lakh from the vehicle in Bidar. The incident took place in front of the State Bank of India's (SBI's) main branch in the city, where the van was parked to reload an ATM.

One of the guards in the vehicle, Giri Venkatesh, died on the spot, while another guard, Shivakumar, sustained injuries. Doctors said that Shivakumar is in a critical condition.

Before opening fire, the robbers threw chilli powder on the guards, police said. Although local residents raised an alarm, threw stones at them, and attempted to catch them, the robbers managed to escape.

Overlooked Star Averages 752 In BCCI Event, Sends Strong Signal For CT '25

Karun Nair is on a role in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.  In the second semi-final between Vidarbha and Ruturaj Gaikwad-led Maharashtra side at Baroda's newly built Kotambi Stadium, Karun Karun Nair made 88* in 44 balls as his team posted 380. Nair's scores in the tournament 112*, 44*, 163*, 111*, 112, 122* and 88*. Thanks to seven unbeaten scores in eight innings, Nair's average has hit 752.

Nair, who is a Test triple centurion, has thus sent a strong signal ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Karun Nair is now the first captain in Vijay Hazare Trophy to cross 700-run mark. Before this Gaikwad, who scored 660 runs in five innings during the 2022-23 season, was the highest scorer as captain.

Nair, now playing for Vidarbha since 2023, had a steep fall from being India's second triple centurion in Tests back in 2016 to not even being considered for selection by his state, Karnataka. However, a chat with former Indian cricketer Abey Kuruvilla during the DY Patil tournament in early 2023 helped him find his new home in Vidarbha during the 2023-24 season. Since then, he has been piling runs everywhere, irrespective of the format.

He has been the top run-getter in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Nair's T20 game went on an upward trajectory as well. He topped the run-charts in the Maharaja T20 Trophy by Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), scoring 560 runs in 12 matches at an average of 56.00, a strike rate of over 181, with a century and five fifties in 12 innings with the best score of 124. He also did well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 255 runs in six innings at an average of 42.50, with three half-centuries and a strike rate of over 177.

Things did not look so bright for him when he returned from a county stint with Northamptonshire back in 2024, scoring 487 runs. In a podcast, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa had asked what the batter needed to do in order to get noticed after he was not considered for the season-opening Duleep Trophy competition. His omission had come after making 690 runs in 10 matches at an average of 40.58 during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy, in which his performances helped Vidarbha earn a runners-up finish to Mumbai, who won a record-extending 42nd title.

Now having a laugh over that podcast, Nair said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo, "Funnily enough I said I think I need to score a hundred in every single innings to kind of get noticed."

"I think I may have manifested something like this unknowingly in that chat with Robbie, and that is coming to fruition. At the time of recording the podcast, I was hurting a bit. After scoring runs in England and scoring nearly 700 runs [690 at the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy] to take Vidarbha into the finals, I did feel I could have got a look-in for the Duleep Trophy."

Video Viral: Virat Kohli, Anushka Visit Radhavallaj Lal Ji To Seek Blessings

In a viral video, India batter Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were spotted in Vrindavan to seek blessings from Radhavallaj Lal Ji. The couple seems to be on a spiritual journey as the latest video comes days after Kohli and Anushka visited Premanandji Maharaj in Vrindavan. Kohli returned home last week after the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he scored just 190 runs across six innings. Kohli and Anushka often visit spiritual leaders to seek blessings, whether it is India or the UK.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is set to implement stricter protocols during Team India's tours, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo.

The report added that BCCI will limit the players spending time with their families on tours. The players will also be barred from taking independent transport to commute during practice and matches.

For a tour of 45 days, the family members of the players can only be with them for not more than 14 days. Meanwhile, during shorter tours in foreign countries, the immediate family members of a play can stay up to a week.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar met the BCCI officials in Mumbai last Saturday and were informed of the new protocols.

Team India conceded a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and lost the opportunity to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord's.

Skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli came under fire for an underwhelming Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign and overall a very disappointing 2024/25 season of Test cricket. Sharma (31 runs in three matches and five innings at an average of 6.20) and Virat Kohli (190 runs in five matches and nine innings at an average of 23.75 with a century) lacked big time with the bat. Virat fell for the outside-off-stump trap throughout the series, most notably by pacer Scott Boland who dismissed him four times.

3 Men Steal Accident Victim's Bike, Leave Him For Dead. This Happened Next

Three men spot a bleeding man in the dead of night in Delhi. Rather than helping him, they see an opportunity in his suffering and steal his motorbike, leaving him alone on the road, to die. But then Karma boomerangs on them.

On January 11, Vikas was riding his motorbike on the Mehrauli-Gurugram road when it skidded and dragged for a few metres near Ghitorni in southwest Delhi around 3 am. Thereafter, Uday Kumar, Tinku and Parambir - residents of Fatehpur Beri - crossed the area. They saw the injured man lying on the road but instead of helping, they stole his bike and fled. Vikas bled to death.

In a turn of fate, however, the three men also met with an accident shortly after. Uday Kumar is currently in a coma while Tinku and Parambir are injured but stable. The men are drug addicts, said police.

The CCTV cameras installed near the accident site have been seized by the police and a probe is underway.

The case brings back memories of a similar incident in 2023 when a 30-year-old documentary filmmaker was left bleeding on the road after his motorbike collided with another on a busy road near Panchsheel enclave in Delhi. A friend of the filmmaker had then claimed that no one offered to help him and that his mobile phone and Go-Pro camera were also stolen.

Career Coach Behind Salary Hikes At Google And Amazon Shares Expert Tips

Do you usually wait for appraisal season to request a pay raise? It might be time to reconsider that strategy. According to career coach Melody Wilding, who has worked with professionals at Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, the performance review isn't when decisions about promotions or raises are made-it's when they're announced.

In an interview with CNBC Make It, Wilding estimated that by the time review discussions take place, about 85% of promotion decisions have already been finalised.

"I call this the 'performance review paradox'," she said. "While you're focused on nailing that one big conversation, the real groundwork for your advancement is being laid in hundreds of small moments throughout the year."

To help professionals secure the raises and promotions they deserve, Wilding shared three actionable tips based on her extensive experience coaching high-achieving clients.

Practice Pre-Suasion: Subtly shape the perceptions and attitudes of your boss, superiors, and colleagues so that when you request a promotion, it feels like a natural next step rather than an unexpected move, Wilding explained.

"For instance," she said, "if your boss brings up a new initiative during a one-on-one, you could respond with: 'It's exciting to see us expanding into AI. I've been exploring this area and have ideas on how to scale our approach. I'd love to contribute more strategically here.'"

Secure Clear Expectations: Before requesting a promotion, Wilding advises discussing the additional responsibilities it would entail. "When your manager outlines their expectations, they're not only acknowledging the potential for promotion but also becoming more invested in your progress since they're part of shaping it," she told CNBC Make It.

Request a Justifiable Raise: "Humans are wired for fairness and reciprocity," Wilding noted. This makes asking for a raise aligned with your new responsibilities more effective. "You're not simply asking for more money - you're highlighting that your compensation should reflect the level you're now operating at," she explained.

Poll Officer Responds To AAP's Voter List Manipulation Charge In Delhi

The election officer of the New Delhi district has responded to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party's allegations of manipulation of voter lists by the BJP. "Submission of applications for addition and deletion of electors in the electoral roll does not automatically result in the addition or deletion of names," the district election officer said.

The AAP has been accusing the BJP of transferring votes from across the country to the New Delhi assembly constituency using the addresses of MPs and ministers who live in the New Delhi constituency. The BJP has rejected all the allegations.

Earlier in the day, a delegation of AAP leaders led by national convener Arvind Kejriwal met the Election Commission officials. "We told the Election Commission how in the New Delhi assembly constituency, each BJP MP has given applications for 30 to 40 names to be included in the voter roll," Mr Kejriwal told media after meeting the poll panel officials.

The election officer, in a post on X, asserted that each application "under Form 6 (for addition) and Form 7 (for deletion) is carefully scrutinized and disposed of in strict compliance with the norms prescribed by the Election Commission of India (ECI)".

The district election officer rejected the claims by the AAP regarding the distribution of items, such as bed sheets, shoes, spectacles and jackets, by the BJP candidates citing "no credible evidence".

Mr Kejriwal had claimed that some BJP candidates were allegedly distributing bedsheets, shoes, jackets and money in full public view in their constituency.

"No credible evidence, such as pictorial proof or witness testimony, has been provided to substantiate these claims," the officer said.

The Model Code of Conduct - a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission for candidates and political parties for free and fair elections - was implemented in the national on January 7, the day the poll schedule was announced.

The officer said that the police and Flying Squad Team of the election machinery are "actively monitoring the situation 24/7".

Delhi will vote on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8.

Was Moana A Copy? Disney Faces $10 Billion Lawsuit From Animator

Disney has been sued by animator Buck Woodall for allegedly copying the idea for the animated movie Moana and its sequel, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. As per the lawsuit filed in the California federal court last week, Disney copied elements of a screenplay Mr Woodall wrote for an animated film called Bucky which has similar themes of teenagers from an ancient Polynesian village embarking on adventures to save their homes.

Mr Woodall is suing Disney for $10 billion, or 2.5 per cent of Moana's gross revenue. He claims he provided the screenplay and trailer of his movie to former Mandeville Films director of development Jenny Marchick who is now DreamWorks Animation's head of development for features.

"Disney's Moana was produced in the wake of Woodall's delivery to the Defendants of virtually all constituent parts necessary for its development and production after more than 17 years of inspiration and work on his animated film project," read the complaint.

"Moana and her crew are sucked into a perilous whirlpool-like oceanic portal, another dramatic and unique device-imagery found in Plaintiffs materials that could not possibly have been developed by chance or without malicious intentions," it added.

Mr Woodall had filed a similar lawsuit over the first Moana film but a court ruling in November last year relieved Disney, stating that the complainant had waited too long to file the suit. However, the release of the sequel granted him the ability to take legal action again.

Disney is yet to comment on the new lawsuit but during the previous hearing, it claimed that no one involved in the creation of Moana saw Mr Woodall's materials.

"Moana was not inspired by or based in any way on [Woodall] or his ‘Bucky' project, which I learned of for the first time after this lawsuit was filed,” director Ron Clements wrote in a declaration to the court at the time.

Moana 2 release

Moana 2 released last year and is the direct sequel to the 2016 smash hit, following the life of Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) as she gathers crew for a new adventure, alongside Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson. The movie managed to rake in $964 million which made it the fourth-highest-grossing movie of 2024.

The movie's success is not limited to the box office with many believing it to be the leading contender in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories at various ceremonies during the 2024-2025 awards season.
