Cousins In Love Die By Suicide In UP, Cops Launch Probe

Two cousins in love allegedly killed themselves by consuming poison in the Charkhari area of Mahoba district adjacent to Banda on Wednesday, police said.

Charkhari area Deputy Superintendent of Police Harshita Gangwar identified the victims as Surendra, 22, and his 20-year-old female cousin, who lived in his neighbourhood.

Surendra consumed poison in a field, the woman at her home, she said.

The officer said that their family members rushed them both to a Community Health Center in Charkhari, where the doctor declared Surendra dead.

The woman was referred to the district hospital but she too died before she could reach there.

Investigation so far has revealed that the man and the woman were cousins. Both studied in the same college and had been seeing each other for a long time, the officer said.

The officer said their families did not know about the affair, and Surendra told his family about it while on the way to the hospital and also expressed his wish to marry his cousin.

It was Surendra who informed his family that the woman too had consumed poison, Gangwar said.

A probe has been ordered into the deaths and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, she said.

Domino's Japan Employee Picks Nose, Touches Pizza Dough, Company Reacts

A restaurant's reputation can be determined by a number of factors, one of which is the level of hygiene it maintains. In addition to protecting the health and safety of both employees and customers, restaurant hygiene is crucial in determining how a place is perceived. Everyone prefers a clean, hygienic restaurant that serves delicious meals and has a pleasant atmosphere. Amid this, a video of an employee at a Domino's restaurant in Japan has gone viral. In the short clip, one of its employees picks his nose and wipes his finger on the pizza dough.

Domino's took note of the same and apologised for the incident. They said that the video was filmed in the store after hours and that no pizza dough had been used. They added that all remaining dough had been disposed of. A part-time worker at a Domino's location in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture, is said to have taken the footage at around 2 am on Monday, according to Japan Times

The store in question stopped operations, according to the company, and the employee in the video will face consequences in line with employment laws. Domino's Japan also mentioned that legal action will be considered.

Domino's Pizza said that it will ensure that "something like this never happens again." "We deeply apologize for making our valued customers uncomfortable," the restaurant chain added.

People on social media said that they were disappointed by the negligence and called for action to be taken against the outlet.

A few months ago, a photo allegedly clicked at a Domino's outlet in Bengaluru showing cleaning mops and brushes hanging just above trays of pizza dough in the kitchen went viral on the internet. Also, clothes, reportedly belonging to the employees, are seen hanging on the wall above the trays.

Responding to the tweet, Domino's said that the company has zero tolerance for violations of their operating standards and that the incident would be "thoroughly investigated".

"Domino's adheres to world-class protocols for ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. An incident involving one of our stores was recently brought to our notice. We want to assert that this is an isolated incident, and we have taken the strictest action against the restaurant in question. Please be informed that we have zero tolerance for violations of our high safety standards. Rest assured, we remain committed to doing everything necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our customers," the company said in a statement.

AAP Announces Goa, Gujarat Candidates, Sends A Message To Congress

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stepped up pressure on its INDIA bloc partner Congress on Tuesday, announcing candidates from South Goa and two seats in Gujarat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and complaining over delayed seat-sharing negotiations.

In a further attempt to corner the Congress, the AAP offered just one of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi to the grand old party while making its intentions clear that it would like to contest from the remaining six seats.

At a press conference following a Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting of the party, AAP general secretary (organisation) Sandeep Pathak declared Venzy Viegas as the party candidate from South Goa and Chaitar Vasva and Umeshbhai Makwana from the Bharuch and Bhavnagar seats in Gujarat.

Mr Viegas, an AAP MLA, has been nominated from South Goa, a seat that was won by the Congress's Francisco Sardinha in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Mr Pathak said on the basis of its vote share in the last Assembly polls in Gujarat, the AAP has demanded eight Lok Sabha seats in the state for itself, leaving the remaining 18 of the 26 seats for the Congress.

Mr Pathak also said the AAP will contest all the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab on its own. The discussions regarding Chandigarh, Haryana and other states should be held expeditiously, he demanded from the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).

Claiming that the Congress insisted on contesting from Bharuch, Mr Pathak said winnability and not "parivarwad" (dynasty) should be the criterion to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the polls.

"The Congress leaders claimed the Bharuch seat for emotional reasons as it was represented by late Ahmad Patel in 1984. They said Patel's daughter will contest from this seat. We will have to get rid of parivarwad if we want to defeat the BJP," he said.

Detailing the progress of the AAP's talks with the Congress over seat sharing, Mr Pathak said two official meetings between the leaders of the two parties took place on January 8 and 12, which were inconclusive.

"No meeting took place with the Congress in the last one month, forcing us to hold this press conference," he said.

Nevertheless, the AAP leader asserted that his party stood firmly and honestly with the INDIA bloc and added that it expects that the opposition alliance will accept the candidates declared by the party.

The PAC meeting, chaired by AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, decided to announce candidates from South Goa and the two seats in Gujarat for the Lok Sabha polls that are likely to be held in April-May.

Last week, the Kejriwal-led party unilaterally announced its candidates from the Guwahati, Sonitpur and Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seats in Assam.

"We are committed to doing whatever it takes to make the INDI alliance successful. But the objective of the alliance is to contest elections, win elections and give a new option to the country," Mr Pathak said.

Asked about the AAP's move to announce its Lok Sabha candidates single-handedly despite being a constituent of the INDIA bloc, he said there is no clarity as to when the next meeting on seat sharing will be held.

"In such a situation, there is worry that it will be very difficult to win the election this way. This worry is the reason why I am sitting here today and I am sitting here with a heavy heart. There would have been no need to do this if we had talked," Mr Pathak said.

The hard talk by the AAP over its alliance with the Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls puts another question mark on a possible seat-sharing arrangement between the two parties.

"We are not announcing candidates for Delhi today. I hope that the talks about Delhi will start soon and conclude very soon. Still, if there is no conclusion, we will announce the candidates from six seats in the next few days," Mr Pathak said.

He said the AAP is staking claim on Lok Sabha seats based on merit and the winnability factor as well as its performance in previous polls.

US Model Asked to Leave Plane After Sex Toy Starts Buzzing In Her Suitcase

A rather embarrasing incident unfolded aboard a flight in the US when a sex toy kept in a woman's suitcase started buzzing shortly before takeoff, the New York Post reported. The passenger, identified as Amanda Diaz Rojas was asked by the crew to disembark the aircraft and reveal the contents of her luggage. Notably, Ms Rojas is a model and Instagram influencer, with more than 2,50,000 followers.

A video of the awkward incident was filmed by the model's friend and later posted on TikTok where it went viral. In the video, flight attendants are heard asking Ms Rojas to remove her suitcase from the overhead locker as it starts buzzing. She is then asked to take the suitcase outside the plane and open it on the jetway. The influencer laughs with embarrassment as she opens the suitcase, and reveals the cause of the noise-- a pink vibrator. Ms. Rojas immediately switches off the device as the airline staff breaks into giggles and laughs. She was later allowed back on her flight.

''When the whole plane wants to know why your suitcase is vibrating,'' a caption on the viral video reads.

The video has sparked hilarity and amusement online and received a lot of varied comments and emojis. One user wrote, ''the ultimate embarrassment.''

''I love how the plane crew was laughing with them,'' a second user wrote. A third commented, ''She makes sure she packs the essentials.''

Another wrote, ''That's what friends are for, recording your most embarrassing moment.''

Many advised her to remove the batteries of sex toys before flying next time. A fourth said, ''That's why you gotta wear that battery out BEFORE packing it.''

The US allows carrying electronic sex toys in both carry-on and checked bags during flights. However, the '''final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint,'' according to guidelines by the Transportation Security Administration.

Russia vs The West: Is Vladimir Putin Winning?

Former US President George W. Bush believed he had a "sense of his soul". British ex-premier Tony Blair thought he deserved a place at the "top table". And French President Emmanuel Macron invited him for hours of talks at his official holiday residence.

For much of President Vladimir Putin's two-and-a-half decades in power, Western leaders believed they understood the strategy of the Kremlin leader and argued that Russia merited a place as an international partner.

But that approach was blown apart two years ago on February 24, 2022, when Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine, consigning to a distance past images such as that of the smiling Russian leader bounding up the steps of Macron's Mediterranean Fort de Bregancon residence in August 2019 bearing flowers for the French leader's wife Brigitte.

While Putin failed in his initial aim of taking key Ukrainian cities in a lightning offensive that first winter, he now appears increasingly content, seeing off Ukraine's much-anticipated summer 2023 counter-offensive and controlling key territories in the south and east of the country.

"It's true to say that President Putin is confident that he can outlast the West and so it's incumbent on us to show the resolve to prove him wrong," said a senior official from a Western country, asking not to be named.

'Russia gains advantage'

Putin had made increasingly bullish statements, declaring in December that Ukraine "does not have a future" and -- in an interview broadcast on Thursday with controversial right-wing US talk show host Tucker Carlson -- that a strategic defeat of Russia is "impossible by definition".

Western leaders have responded by insisting that defeating Russia in its war on Ukraine is the only option, with Macron declaring last month that Europe's priority must be to "not let Russia win".

Analysts say only drastically ramped up Western support for Ukraine as it runs out of munitions can change the momentum.

But even this is far from certain, as US legislators hesitate over a new aid package, Putin awaits a possible Donald Trump victory in this year's US presidential election and cracks emerge in Europe.

"It is a race by both sides to rebuild their offensive capacity," said Andrea Kendall-Taylor, senior fellow at Washington-based Center for New American Security (CNAS).

"If the Western funding does not come through, if Russia gains some sort of advantage, then they have the possibility of making some more gains," she said.

"The momentum has shifted."

Kendall-Taylor added that if Ukraine can hold its lines in 2024, it could pressure Russia more in 2025 if new resources come through.

"From Putin's perspective, 2024 is quite critical," she said.

Ukraine is deeply unsettled by the prospect of a return to the White House for Trump, who famously declared in 2023 he would "have that war settled in one day, 24 hours" if elected again.

Far-right parties, which commentators fear would advocate a softer line against Russia, are on the rise in France and Germany.

'Cause for concern'

Tatiana Stanovaya, founder of the R. Politik consultancy, said Putin saw 2024 as a "window of opportunity" to turn the course of the war in Russia's favour, partly due to the weaknesses in the West.

"He anticipates a temporary gap in Western military support, with ammunition production expected to ramp up only by early 2025," she wrote on her Telegram channel.

"The US election cycle might lead to a less decisive American geopolitical strategy towards supporting Kyiv, and the European Union, facing its own internal disagreements, is unlikely to compensate for this support on its own," she added.

But one reason for some optimism in the West may come from Russia's own domestic weaknesses.

Its economy is firmly on a war footing, there are signs of public fatigue with the duration of the conflict and it has suffered astronomical losses. So far, Western sources say 350,000 soldiers have been killed or wounded on the Russian side.

The Western official said there were things which "really ought to be a cause for concern" for Putin, with government spending on defence and security "storing up some real long-term problems in the Russian economy".

"Balancing the domestic stability picture absorbs a large percentage of Putin's bandwidth," said Dara Massicot, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, noting "overconfidence" in the current tone of Russian officials.

But without significant Western support "I don't know what kind of negotiating position the Ukrainians would be in. It would be a terrible one," she said.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said the electric bus will be started by laying electric cable on the Delhi-Mumbai Express National Highway and the distance from Delhi to Jaipur will be covered in two hours and its fare will be 30 per cent less than a diesel bus.

Addressing the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of 17 road projects with an investment of more than Rs 2,500 crore in Udaipur to accelerate Mewar's development, Mr Gadkari said, "I believe that from Bandikui to Jaipur for Rs 1,370 crore, we are constructing a 67-kilometer four-lane expressway." "This work will be completed by November 2024 and after that, I assure you that the journey from Delhi to Jaipur will be within two hours," he added.

Mr Gadkari said the Delhi-Mumbai express highway is the first in Asia and the second in the world on which we have built an animal overpass so that animals do not have to cross the road.

"I am very happy that we are making the roads of Rajasthan at par with the roads of the world," he said.

The minister assured that before the end of 2024 the national highways of Rajasthan will be at par with the national highways of America.

He said that in Rajasthan, the Centre is building express highways costing Rs 60,000 crores apart from the 1,382 km Delhi Mumbai Express Highway being built for Rs 1 lakh crore, of which work of Rs 22,000 crore has been done in the state.

On this occasion, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said that Udaipur is very important from a tourism point of view and it is called Kashmir of Rajasthan.

The work done in Rajasthan after 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is historic and will further expand the tourism sector here, he added.

Government Releases List Of Countries Where UPI Payments Are Accepted

Payments through India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) will now be accepted in seven countries after its launch in Sri Lanka and Mauritius on Monday. After the announcement, MyGovIndia, a citizen engagement platform of the Government of India, shared a world map, highlighting the countries where Indians can use UPI to make payments. France, UAE, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Bhutan, and Nepal are the countries that accept UPI payments, according to the government.

''UPI goes Global! India's Unified Payments Interface goes International with launches in Sri Lanka and Mauritius!  An instant, one-stop payment interface showcases 'Make in India, Make for the World,'' the tweet read.

Here's the tweet:

India has been proactive in extending the reach of UPI globally. Last year, India also showcased the UPI system at the G20 meetings, enabling the delegates to experience real-time transactions over the phone.

On Monday, UPI services were rolled out in Sri Lanka and Mauritius, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing it as linking historic ties with modern digital technology. In his remarks, PM Modi hoped the new fintech services would help the two nations and said the UPI is implementing "new responsibilities of uniting partners with India".

Before that, the payment system was formally launched at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, on February 2. Notably, Bhutan was the first country to enable UPI transactions through the BHIM app. The UPI digital payment app was virtually launched on July 13, 2021, by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and her Bhutanese counterpart Lyonpo Namgay Tshering.

Last year, a report suggested that Japan might also join India's UPI payment system and promote cooperation on the digital identity system.

Developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI is an instant real-time payment system to facilitate inter-bank transactions through mobile phones. It powers multiple bank accounts into a single mobile application (of any participating bank), merging several banking features, seamless fund routing, and merchant payments into one hood.
