Hugh Jackman And Deborra-lee Separate After 27 Years Of Marriage: Report

"Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman and his wife of 27 years are to separate, a statement carried by US media said Friday.

The Australian actor, 54, met fellow performer Deborra-Lee Jackman on the set of an Australian TV series in 1995, and the pair wed a year later.

"We have been blessed to share almost (three) decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage," a joint statement first reported by People magazine said.

"Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

"Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness."

The couple have two children together.

Jackman, a Golden Globe winner for his role in "Les Miserables," has juggled his image as a muscle-bound superhero, with ventures into music and dancing during a varied career.

"We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives," the statement continues, adding that no further information will be released.

In a social media post to mark the couple's silver wedding, Jackman described their marriage as "natural as breathing."

"From nearly the moment we met... I knew our destiny was to be together. In our 25 years - our love has only grown deeper."

"I'm forever grateful to share our love, our life - and, our family together. We've only just begun. Deb, I love you with all my heart!"

Jackman's rippling muscles and cut-glass features have earned him an army of admirers, and in 2008 he was named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive".

Blog: Bullet Meri Jaan? Not Really, Not Anymore

As a child, it was great fun to see my mamas and chachas in Ayodhya ride the 'Bullat' (called Bullt in Delhi) and go on and on about it. They would even hum the iconic 'ye bullet meri jaan, manzilo ka nishan' song.

Like a typical boy, my response was to just sit on these stationary bikes, reach for the locked tilted handles, and make 'dug dug' sounds to myself.

As a teenager in the 90s, I heard many bhaiyas in the colony have endless discussions on the RX 100 vs the Bullet. We all know who won.

Since then, I have had fun rides on many versions of the Bullet - the Electra, 500, 350, UCE, and so on.

Last week, my colleague Tabish told me about a brand new 2023 version of the Bullet parked in the office parking area for a review. I dashed to take a first look.

I am not an avid biker. Nor do I love doling out specifications in WhatsApp groups and conversations. Like crores of ordinary Indians, I am in love with the legacy of the Royal Enfield Bullet.

Sorry RE, you took an iconic name and ruined the product. And I can safely say, for millions of its fans, you took the timelessness of the Bullet and threw it out of the window.

The new Bullet, quite literally, lacks the kick. I mean, seriously, how could you get rid of the kick-start mechanism?

Why did you have to replace the iconic chrome silencer with one that has a matte finish?

Whoever told you that the 'Classic'-ification of the Bullet was a good idea?

RE has made the bullet 'more refined'. In the 91 years of its existence, people have loved it because of the way it was.

What cancelled the new Bullet for me was its sound. The iconic 'dug dug' is gone. It sounds like any other bike.

I could not help but say all of this in a TV review of the bike. The RE team reached out. They were polite. Claimed they did 'not want me to change my opinion' but courteously attempted to tell me how pollution norms and assembly line compulsions meant that the Bullet had to be this way.

To that, all I want to say is - I wish I did not have to see the Bullet this way. You may have launched something like a Bullet. But this ain't the same 'jaan'.

"It's Unfortunate": Ridhi Dogra On Playing SRK's Mother In Jawan

Ridhi Dogra, who played Kaveri Amma in Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan, has opened up about her experience of working with the superstar. The actress stars as Shah Rukh Khan aka Azad's adoptive mother in the film. For Ridhi, it was “unfortunate” to play his [Shah Rukh Khan's] mother, but the actress is glad that SRK himself acknowledged it. She told Siddharth Kannan, “Bahut difficult tha mere liye karna jo maine kiya. [It was difficult for me to do what I did.] I am so glad he [SRK] acknowledged it. Maybe he must have said it very casually… I don't know…because unhone stage pe bola hai [he said it on stage]... but unhone jab bola na ‘unfortunately playing my mother'... it was like that moment from Om Shanti Om happened for me. That's it. That's it. I don't need anything else. Thank you for saying that. It is unfortunate to be playing his mother and he said it to me many times ki yaar main samajh sakta hu [I can understand] how wrong you must be feeling.”

Ridhi Dogra was referring to Shah Rukh Khan's statement at the audio launch event of Jawan in Chennai. While thanking the star cast of the film, Shah Rukh Khan said, "Ridhi, who is unfortunately playing my mother, but in the next film, we will work something out age-wise." Sharing the video, Ridhi wrote, "When you swim in an ocean of emotions. As an artist. As a person. And as a fan. The emotions mix up like the lyrics of suraj hua madham."

ICYMI, here is the post:

Coming back to the interview, Ridhi Dogra also said that her experience of working with Shah Rukh Khan has been super “comfortable.” She said, “Mujhe sachi aisa laga ki hum dono Delhi se dost hai [I genuinely felt like he was a friend of mine from Delhi].” According to the actress, SRK is so charming that you end up looking like a fool.

Ridhi Dogra added: “Not just a charmer, he is also genuine. Mai pehli baar jab unke sath shoot kar rahi thi [When I was shooting with him for the first time]… he made me so comfortable. Mujhe sachi aisa laga ki hum dono Delhi se dost hai [I genuinely felt like he was a friend of mine from Delhi]. There are 2-3 people I know from Delhi who are living in Bombay, mujhe laga yeh vaise hi hai. He is the same. He was helping me with my lines…. We were sitting like this and he didn't get up the whole time. And, I was like how can I let go of this opportunity? Then you feel like don't trouble him but I was like how can I let go of this opportunity? I have to talk to him. Toh mai silly jokes crack kar rahi hu…He is so charming that you end up looking like a fool.”

Jawan, which was released on September 7, also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi.

Forest On One Side, Ditch On The Other: The Inside Story Of J&K Encounter

Caught between forests and a hill on one side and a deep ditch on the other, the security forces personnel locked in a seemingly endless encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district are battling terrorists who have no shortage of arms, ammunition or food, and also have the lay of the land.

The personnel are also facing an uphill battle, literally, as the terrorists are holed up in a cave on top of the hill, and the only route to it is a narrow one with a sheer drop on one side, highly placed sources in the security forces have told NDTV. It was this path and the visibility afforded by the cave that cost the forces the lives of Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himayun Bhat.

The Beginning

The sources said that the forces first got intelligence about terrorists hiding in the Gadul forests of Kokernag on Tuesday night. A search operation was launched, but the terrorists could not be found. The joint team of Army and police personnel then received information that the terrorists were on top of a hill.

Attack Starts

In the early hours of Wednesday, the forces decided to attack the terrorists. "The path the forces have to take to get to the top of the hill is quite challenging. It is very narrow and there are mountains and a dense forest on one side and deep ditch on the other. The personnel began the ascent in the night, and the pitch darkness made it worse," said a source.

As the forces neared the cave, the terrorists got a clear view of them and began firing indiscriminately.  Caught on the narrow path, with no cover and the very real danger of falling, the personnel had nowhere to go, and no way to retaliate.

Colonel Singh, who was the commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, company commander Major Dhonchak - who were both recipients of the prestigious Sena Medal (gallantry) - and Deputy SP Bhat were injured in the firing.

The hail of bullets and the challenging path made their extraction - both by other personnel and a helicopter - impossible and they could be taken to a hospital only in the morning, the sources said.

Standoff

It's been nearly 72 hours since the encounter began and the forces have the hill surrounded. Explosives are being dropped using the Heron drones purchased from Israel, rocket launchers are being used and the personnel are firing, but the Army has still not been able to achieve domination of the area because of its challenging geography, the sources said.

'No Ordinary Terrorists'

According to the sources, the number of terrorists is likely to be more than the two-three that are being cited.  Among them is Uzair Khan, who joined Lashkar-e-Taiba last year. They said he has complete information about the area, which the terrorists are benefiting from.

"Ordinary terrorists cannot stretch an encounter for so long. They are very well trained and have good weapons. It is also possible that an informer may have double-crossed the forces or someone may have leaked their movements of the security forces. Whatever it is, ending this operation has become a big challenge," said a source.

'Ambush Hypothesis'

One soldier is still missing and at least two personnel have been injured. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar advised retired police and Army officers to avoid going with the "ambush hypothesis".

"Retired police/Army officers should avoid 'ambush hypothesis'. It is a specific input-based ops. Ops is in progress and all 2-3 trapped terrorists will be neutralised," he said.

"Not Worried About Salary": 3 Women Become Priests In Tamil Nadu

Taking the opportunity to close the gender gap in the profession, three young women -- one the first graduate in a family, another a graduate and the third a postgraduate -- have chosen to take up the sacred vocation of priest in a Hindu temple.

The salary is meagre but that does not seem to be an issue for these pious young women who say god will provide for their needs.

"I was working in a private firm in Chennai and gave up the job after my friend brought to my notice the state government's announcement on training women from all castes to become temple priests," says N Ranjitha, a BSc Visual Communications graduate.

"I found it important to serve god and hence the decision to become a priest," Ranjitha told PTI. Her parents from Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district are farmers and she is the first graduate in her family, she said.

Like her, S Ramya, a postgraduate in Mathematics, and S Krishnaveni, a graduate in Mathematics, decided to dedicate their lives to temple service. The three were among the 98 archakas -- the other 95 being men -- who successfully completed a one-year course organised by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department.

The training was challenging initially but their teacher Sundar Bhattar taught them well, Ranjitha said.

They newly ordained women are to be posted as assistant priests in Vaishnavaite temples under the ambit of the HR & CE department to undergo training for a year, after which they will be given permanent positions.

According to Krishnaveni, both her father and grandfather served at the Mariamman temple in their village in Tittakudi in Cuddalore district. "Neither I nor others are worried about the salary since we trust that the Lord will provide for us," she said.

All of them were initiated into priesthood from the Mannargudi Sendalangara Jeeyar during the sixth month of their training. They have been trained in Pancharatra agama, the Vaishnavaite tradition of worship, during their time at the Archakar Training School run by the Sri Ranganathar Temple in Srirangam.

Like the rest of the trainees, they too were provided a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000.

Ramya, also from Tittakudi, hopes to take up the new role in a major temple so that she can get an opportunity to learn more and gain good exposure as well.

All the 98 archakas and four odhuvars (who recite devotional hymns in temples) received their certificates from HR & CE Minister P K Sekar Babu at a function held here recently.
