'Nothing Shot, Casual': Gambhir's Harsh Words On Kohli's Dismissal vs Pak

Much was expected of Virat Kohli in the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2023 clash in Pallekele on Saturday, but he did not deliver. Though the game got abandoned without a ball being bowled in the Pakistan innings, India were given a mighty scare after their innings folded on 266. Barring Ishan Kishan (82) and  Hardik Pandya (87) none of the other batters could score big. Virat Kohli (4) and Rohit Sharma (11) were the major disappointments.

Though Virat Kohli opened his account with four off a great cover drive against Naseem Shah, his stay at the crease did not last long. Shaheen Afridi, after dismissing Rohit Sharma, got Virat Kohli's wicket too in the seventh over.

On the third ball of the seventh over, bowled by Afridi, Virat Kohli played one onto his stumps. The commentators on Star Sports had varied reactions to Virat Kohli's dismissal. Waqar Younis and Matthew Hayden termed the manner of dismissal as 'unlucky', World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir was more harsh.

"That was a nothing shot, neither forward, neither back. I think was a bit casual. That's what you get when you play someone like Shaheen Afridi. You don't know whether to go forward or back," Gautam Gambhir said.

Pakistan pace great Waqar praised Shaheen Afridi for changing the length.

"Kohli was a touch unlucky. Inside edge, the ball didn't come on to the bat and maybe even kept a bit low. But credit to Shaheen Shah Afridi for altering his length," he said.

Hayden added: "Yeah, inside edge onto the stumps, could have got anywhere."

India next play Nepal in a Group A match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday.

Video: Gender Reveal Party Turns Deadly As Plane Crashes In Front Of Guests

A terrifying video has gone viral on the internet which shows a gender reveal in Mexico ending in a tragedy. The video shows a stunt plane involved in the celebration crashing in front of the guests.

In a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), the footage shows an expecting couple smiling and holding hands in front of a sign that read, "Oh baby". Moments later, a stunt plane crashed in front of oblivious guests.

According to Express.co.uk, the family was hosting the ceremony in San Pedro, Mexico when the disaster struck.

The 32-year-old pilot, named Luis Angel N., was later found lying in the wreckage of the plane before he was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The caption of the video reads, "Pilot killed after his Piper PA-25 left wing failed at a gender reveal party in the town of San Pedro, Mexico."

See the video here:

The video soon went viral on the internet. Commenting on the video, a person wrote, "The way the camera panned back to the couple with not the slightest care in the world for the pilot is sad."

Another added: "Why do they have to do such extreme gender reveals lately? Why can't they just settle for something simple?"

"If you watch the video in slow motion you can see he pulled really hard on the stick. Overstressed the wings," the third user wrote.

"Test For Rahul Gandhi": Himanta Sarma On DMK Leader's "Sanatana" Remark

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that if the Congress does not distance itself from DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin's controversial remarks on Sanatana Dharma, it will 'confirm' public's perception that the party is 'anti-Hindu'.

He also questioned the grand old party's stance on its leader Karti Chidambaram defending the DMK leader's statements.

"I do not want to condemn the statement by the Tamil Nadu minister because he has exposed himself," Mr Sarma said, claiming that remarks on similar lines were also made by Karti Chidambaram and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

DMK youth wing secretary and Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin had alleged on Saturday that Sanatana Dharma is against equality and social justice, and had likened it to coronavirus, malaria, fever caused by dengue virus and mosquitoes.

His remarks led to a furore on social media with BJP's IT department in-charge Amit Malviya stating the DMK leader has called for "genocide" of 80 per cent population who follow Sanatan Dharma.

Udhayanidhi Stalin rubbished the genocidal claim and said his speech was a pointer to social evils.

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram defended Mr Stalin's remarks saying that the BJP likening it to a "genocidal call" is like giving it a "mischievous spin".

Mr Sarma maintained that the question is now whether the Congress will remain in alliance with the DMK and take action against Mr Chidambaram.

"This is a test for Rahul Gandhi. He has to take a decision whether he respects Sanatan Dharma or not," the BJP leader said.

"If Gandhi does not snap ties with DMK or expel Chidambaram, then it will be confirmed that these people (Congress) are anti-Hindu, they do not like Sanatan Dharma, they do not like the Hindu religion," Mr Sarma added.

Refraining from making any statement on Hinduism as a religion, he said, "I don't want to join that debate. It was here from 5,000 years ago and will be there till the sun and moon are there."

"Will Pardon Trump If...": US Presidential Hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy

Republican presidential aspirant Vivek Ramaswamy said on Sunday that while he expects to become the party's nominee for the November 2024 US elections, will vote for Donald Trump if the former president secures the nomination.

Appearing on a Sunday talk show, the 38-year-old Indian American entrepreneur also expressed his intention to pardon Trump, who currently faces an array of legal challenges, should he be elected as President of the United States.

"If Donald Trump's the nominee -- yes, I will support him, and if I'm the president, yes, I will pardon him because that will help reunite the country. But it's not the most important thing I'm going to do as the next president. It is the table stakes for moving this country forward," Mr Ramaswamy told ABC news.

Following his impressive performance in the inaugural Republican primary presidential debate last month, Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur-turned-politician, has experienced a surge in popularity, competing alongside fellow Indian American rival Nikki Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina.

Mr Ramaswamy is notably the sole Republican presidential hopeful to openly endorse Trump, who is facing multiple charges and is currently out on bail, and his 'America First' policies, including stances on issues like climate change.

"My bottom line is that I will vote for the person who I think is best positioned to move this country forward. I do not think that's Joe Biden. I do not think that is whichever other puppet, Kamala Harris or anybody else, that they roll out after Joe Biden," he said.

Vivek Ramaswamy said while he may have disagreements with several of his Republican counterparts on various issues, he firmly believes that any of them would be more effective than Joe Biden or Kamala Harris in steering the US towards progress.

"That is my arbitrator when I cast my vote for who the next president is -- who's going to serve the interests of the American people? That's not some sort of commitment driven by vengeance or grievance. It is driven by a commitment to our purpose as citizens of this country.

"That's what we need to revive in the United States, our civic spirit, remembering that even the 'America First' movement is bigger than Donald Trump. It is bigger than me. It is bigger than one political candidate," he said.

Mr Ramaswamy said the 'America First' movement belongs to the people of the US, the same people who still retain the power to elect their next president, and he aims to preserve this system rather than see it replaced by a federal police state determining the nation's leadership, "and I stand by that without apology".

Vivek Ramaswamy said he is in the US presidential race because he expects to be the Republican nominee and lead the country forward.

The Indian American candidate reiterated his opinion that many of the charges against Donald Trump are politically motivated that set a detrimental precedent for the United States.

"I do not want to see us become a banana republic where the administrative police state uses police force to eliminate opponents from competition. That's not the way it works," he said.

Trinamool Ex-MLA Snubbed Ahead Of Key Poll Joins BJP

A former Trinamool legislator defected to the BJP on Sunday after being snubbed for a crucial by-election to the seat she once held. Mitali Roy won from Dhupguri in 2016, but lost to BJP's Bishnupada Roy in 2021. The BJP leader's death last month led to the assembly bypoll next Tuesday.

Ms Roy is seen as an influential leader locally and the BJP termed her defection as a big blow to the Trinamool.

"Within 24 hours of @abhishekaitc's public meeting, Mitali Roy, former MLA of Dhupguri assembly, left Trinamool and joined BJP today at Dhupguri election office...! The end of Trinamool has begun!! Long live BJP," said West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar.

West Bengal minister Shashi Panja retorted with a "washing machine" jibe at the BJP, an allegation often made by non-BJP parties to symbolise that every corrupt person comes out clean after joining the BJP.

"@BJP4Bengal's Washing Machine politics continues! Foes of 2021 becoming Friends in 2023 displays nothing but political opportunism! This proves, once again, that BJP has no organisational hold of its own," she said.

Ms Roy isn't the only politician to have jumped ship ahead of the crucial bypoll. BJP's former district president Dwipen Pramanik joined the Trinamool last Saturday.

Meanwhile, Trinamool number two Abhishek Banerjee, who campaigned in Dhupguri on Saturday, said if the INDIA alliance comes to power LPG cylinder prices will drop to Rs 500.

"They have reduced Rs 200 for LPG cylinders terming it a gift for Raksha Bandhan. I want to ask the Prime Minister - does the festival of Rakhi come once every five years?" he asked.

"When the BJP lost in West Bengal during the 2021 Assembly polls, they reduced the prices for petrol and diesel. If BJP wins the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, LPG prices will hit Rs 3,000. But if INDIA Alliance wins, the prices of LPG cylinders will go down to Rs 500," he added.

Significance of Dhupguri Bypoll

Dhupguri is being seen an important indicator of the voters' mood in North Bengal, a region swept by the BJP during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 assembly elections. However, Trinamool claims it has been able to regain some lost ground in the region and hopes to wrest the seat from the BJP.

The bypoll will primarily be a Trinamool vs BJP fight. The Left has fielded a candidate supported by the Congress, an indicator of the tricky issue of seat-sharing for the INDIA alliance in West Bengal.

Trimamool has fielded college professor Nirmal Chandra Roy for the bypoll and the BJP has nominated Tapasi Roy, the widow of a central police force personnel killed in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in 2021. The CPM has fielded folk singer Ishwar Chandra Roy.

The campaigning ended today for Tuesday's bypoll and the votes will be counted on Friday.

A total of 30 companies of central forces will be deployed for the bypoll.
