This Tiny Store Hangs From A Large Cliff in China, Sells Snacks

Apart from natural wonders, China also boasts of stunning man-made buildings and structures, highlighting the country's engineering marvels. One such unique convenience store is located on a high cliff in China, pictures of which have resurfaced on X, leaving users amazed. 

According to CGTN, the store opened in Shiniuzhai National Geological Park in Pingjiang County, Hunan Province in 2018. The small wooden box that hangs on the side of a mountain provides refreshments to climbers who need a quick break in the middle of their climb.

X user 'Science Girl' shared a few pics of the store and explained, ''In the Hunan province in China, 120 metres393 feet) up the side of a cliff, There is a shop It supplies climbers with essential snacks, refreshments, and sustenance during their ascent. Workers replenish the store using ziplines, to offer a unique shopping experience with this fusion of sustenance and scenery.''

The pictures have left internet users stunned, who were extremely curious to know about how the store functions and who operates it. 

One user wrote, ''This is beyond genius.'' Another commented, ''This is just crazy and incredible at the same time.''

A third stated, ''I'd be absolutely terrified shopping here.'' A fourth wrote, ''Absolute amazing and my mind is blown. This is some real community shit right here because the owner of this shop is definitely not putting his life at risk to sell sweeties for himself lol.''

A fifth joked, ''And I thought my work commute was bad.''

Notably, the shop employees are professional rock climbers as well and the commodities they sell are transported to the shop via a special rope conveyer. According to China's CCTV media outlet, only one worker is stationed inside the box at any time.

70-Year-Old Dies After Robbers Tape Mouth, Tie Limbs At Mumbai Flat: Cops

A 70-year-old woman died and her husband was injured after their mouths were taped and hands tied allegedly by three robbers inside their flat at Tardeo in south Mumbai on Sunday before the accused decamped with gold and other valuables, police said.

The incident took place in Yusuf Manzil building, an official said.

The victims - Surekha Agarwal and her 75-year-old husband Madan Mohan Agarwal - were the only residents of the flat, he said.

"When the couple was stepping out of their flat for a morning walk around 6 am, the three robbers stormed in. They taped the victims' mouths and tied their hands and legs. After that, they decamped with gold ornaments, watches and cash," the official of Tardeo police station said.

After the accused left the place, the woman's husband somehow reached the door of the flat and pressed the alarm button. Later, someone from the housing society rushed to their help, he said.

However, the woman was found unconscious. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead, the police official added.

A case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, including 302 (murder), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt) and others was registered, and investigation into the incident is underway, he said.

Peru's "7-Foot-Tall Aliens" Turn Out To Be Illegal Gold Miners, Say Officials

Peru's National Prosecutor's Office has accused illegal gold mining gangs of posing as 7-ft aliens to terrorise local residents. According to a report by the New York Post, the locals in Alto Nanay, a hamlet of about 3,000 people in the northern Amazon Basin, claimed to see "armoured" and "floating" 7-foot aliens wearing dark-coloured hoods flying around since mid-July and were reported to be impervious to bullets. 

The locals even compared the attackers to 'green goblins' and many speculated it was the "face peelers". The media outlet reported that the gangs are hoping to instil fear in locals to keep them inside their homes and away from their illegal gold mines. 

It was also speculated that the gangs are using jetpacks to reach more unattainable spots in the dense jungles near the Nanay River to mine for more gold. 

“They would be using state-of-the-art technology, such as thrusters that allow people to fly,” Carlos Castro Quintanilla, the Peruvian government's prosecutor investigating the case, told Radio Programas del Peru.

Prosecutors said that the jetpacks were first used by these illegal mining cartels to explore prospects for gold deeper in the forest surrounding the Nanay River in Peru.

According to New York Post, Alto Nanay is rich in gold, and metal is deposited in the riverbeds. 

The alien debate started on July 11 when locals started complaining of attacks by a 7-foot-tall creature that was clothed in dark-coloured hoods. 

Another eye witness who is a school teacher claimed that the strange alien-like creature was flying from the ground.

A 15-year-old reportedly was cut on the neck in one of the attacks and required treatment at a hospital. 

The Ikitu community has asked the military to intervene.

Sea Creature With 20 Arms, Strawberry-Like Body Found In Antarctic Ocean

In a surprising discovery, a team of scientists from Australia and the United States found a "new, creepy-looking underwater species" after they undertook a series of research expeditions near Antarctica, as per a report in CTV News. The new species is being dubbed the Antarctic strawberry feather since it resembles the shape of a strawberry. It has about 20 arms and the creature's colour can range from "purplish" to "dark reddish".

The findings of the same were published in the journal Invertebrate Systematics. The researchers went on several trips to the Antarctic Ocean between 2008 and 2017 in search of a collection of "cryptic" marine animals known as Promachocrinus species or Antarctic feather stars, which they characterised as having "otherworldly" motions.

The team took samples from all around the world, including the Siple Coast, Diego Ramirez and Prince Edward Island, the study added. "In total, the scientists were able to identify seven new species under the name Promachocrinus, increasing the total number of known Antarctic feather species from one to eight," they said. 

The scientific name of the species is 'Promachocrinus fragarius' and according to the study, the name Fragarius is derived from the Latin word "fragum," which means "strawberry."

The researchers also added that these are enormous creatures which can live anywhere from about 65 to 1,170 metres underwater. The Antarctic strawberry feather star appears to be an alien-like creature at first glance. When one zooms close on photographs of the aquatic creature, its strawberry-like form and texture become more visible. 

According to the researchers, dark taxa, or undiscovered species, from Antarctica can take longer than normal to uncover and identify "because of constraints on the scale of sampling necessary." The scientists added, "Understanding which taxa are truly cryptic and only recognisable with molecular data, and those that are pseudocryptic and can be identified once characters have been revised in a molecular framework is important. Monitoring biodiversity requires robust identification of taxa and this can be very complicated when taxa are truly cryptic."

Jeff Bezos And Lauren Sanchez Donate $100 Million To Maui Wildfire Relief

Amazon Executive Chairman Jeff Bezos and fiance Lauren Sanchez, vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, have pledged to donate $100 million to help rebuild Maui after wildfires devastated the island. More than 90 people have died, thousands have been displaced and buildings and businesses have burnt down, making it one of the worst natural disasters to hit the US. 

Ms. Sanchez took to social media to announce that she and the former Amazon CEO are ''heartbroken'' by the destruction and are creating a fund to help the Hawaiian island ''get back on its feet.''

''The immediate needs are important, and so is the longer-term rebuilding that will have to happen – even after much of the attention has subsided. Jeff and I are creating a Maui Fund and are dedicating $100 million to help Maui get back on its feet now and over the coming years as the continuing needs reveal themselves,'' Ms. Sanchez wrote on Instagram on Friday.

Notably, Jeff Bezos, the third richest man in the world, owns a 14-acre estate on La Perouse Bay on the south shore of Maui worth $78 million, as per People. The estate is roughly 20 miles away from where fires are currently burning in South Maui.

Meanwhile, other celebrities have also pitched in for relief efforts. Oprah Winfrey, a Maui resident, purchased aid for evacuees at shelters across the island earlier this week. 

The fires that started on Tuesday night, August 8, are yet to be brought under complete control by the crews. The Hawaii fire, so far, ranks as the second deadliest in the past 100 years, trailing California's Camp Fire, in November 2018.

As per the U.S. Forest Service, nearly 85% of U.S. wildfires are caused by humans, while natural causes include lightning and volcanic activity. 

Research scientist at the Yale School of the Environment, Jennifer Marlon in an interview with CNN said that such strange events are becoming common due to climate change. According to the research scientist, Hawaii fires are fueled by a combination of strong winds and dry conditions, which get complicated by the island's geography.

President Joe Biden has declared Maui a major disaster area, paving the way for federal assistance.

Fans can't keep calm as Chaleya will explore the on-screen romantic chemistry between the two stars for the first time. The teaser shows Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara twirling and dancing to the beats of the song. While Nayanthara looks heavenly in a floral gown, Shah Rukh Khan steals all the limelight as he strikes his signature pose in a black printed shirt.

Sharing the Chaleya teaser on social media Saturday evening, Shah Rukh wrote, “The Love of Jawan. Romantic. Gentle Sweet. #Chaleya is out on Monday! Anirudh, you are magical. Chaleya is the second song from Jawan's album. The first song, a peppy track called Zinda Banda was released a few weeks earlier and has been topping the charts ever since.
