"If I Am Being Honest...": Hardik Blasts Indian Team For 2nd T20I Show

Not pleased with his team's display with the willow, India skipper Hardik Pandya on Sunday said batters have to take more responsibility going forward. India put up another underwhelming batting display as they could manage only 152/7 in the second T20I against the West Indies, which the hosts won by two wickets. The total was only a touch better than the 145/9 they managed in the first game.

"If I am being honest that was a not a pleasing batting performance. The wickets were falling and the track was on the slower side. We could have batted better. 160 plus or 170 would have been a good total.

"Batters need to take more responsibility," Hardik said at the post-match presentation.

India trail the five-match series 0-2 with the likes of Shubaman Gill, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson failing to score runs.

"With the current combination we have we will have to trust our top seven batters to come good and hope the bowlers win you games. We have to find ways to make sure we have the right balance, but at the same time, batters need to take more responsibility."

Tilak Varma has looked at ease, playing in his debut series as he scored the bulk of the runs for India.

"The way he has been batting, that is something we are looking at. A left-hander at No. 4 gives us a right-left combination throughout. The youngsters are coming with confidence and fearlessness."

West Indies skipper Rovman Powell was delighted with the win.

"It's a very good position to be in. Hopefully we can keep winning. We always knew it was going to come down to how we batted against spin. Shows cricket is a game of glorious uncertainties." On shuffling his bowlers throughout the innings, he said "I realised that whenever batters go at the bowlers, they don't go at the first over. So I tried to eliminate that and gave my bowlers one-over spells, especially fast bowlers because it is very hot."

"Opposing Delhi Services Bill Is Wrong": Congress' Sandeep Dikshit

Congress leader and former MP from Delhi Sandeep Dikshit, in toeing a different line from his party's position as he has once again extended his support to the Central government's ordinance bill adding that opposing this bill is wrong.

"It was confirmed that this bill will be passed in the Lok Sabha, as the govt has a majority there. When this bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha, though the govt doesn't have a majority here but just like in Lok Sabha if some other parties will support this bill, then it will be passed...In my opinion, opposing this bill is wrong," Dikshit said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is all set to move the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Earlier on August 3, the Bill was passed in Lok Sabha by a voice vote after a walkout by members of I.N.D.I.A alliance.

Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking the support of opposition parties against the bill, especially in the Rajya Sabha.

Launching an attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sandeep Dikshit said that they themselves are trapped.

"Who is Aam Aadmi Party to attack any party, they themselves are trapped. They don't even know that their big party leaders will be outside jail or in jail. They should worry about themselves. Congress party is with them just for this bill," he added.

Further, the Congress leader stated that Arvind Kejriwal has "fooled" the people of Delhi.

"The way Arvind Kejriwal has fooled the people of Delhi, he is now fooling members of the alliance and the whole country," Dikshit said.

The BJP-led central government had this May brought the ordinance on the transfer and posting of bureaucrats in Delhi in May, virtually negating a Supreme Court verdict giving the elected government in Delhi control over services.

The Centre on May 19 introduced the Ordinance to create an authority for the transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi, which the AAP government has said goes against the Supreme Court verdict on control of services.

Transfer and postings of all officers of the Delhi government were under the executive control of the Lieutenant Governor before the May 11 verdict of the Supreme court.

The Congress had earlier made its stand clear stating that they will oppose the Centre's ordinance on administrative services in Delhi if a bill is brought to replace the ordinance in the Parliament.

The Bill is expected to be taken up by Parliament this week as it is on the government's agenda in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking the support of opposition parties against the Ordinance. Members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance have said they will oppose the Bill in Parliament.

"Can Say With Guarantee...": KCR's Big Prediction Ahead Of Telangana Polls

Making no bones about the association with AIMIM party, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday said BRS's friendship with the Asaduddin Owaisi-led party will continue in future also, and the ruling party will come back to power with 7-8 more seats than it got in 2018 Assembly polls.

BRS (then TRS) won 88 seats in the 2018 Assembly polls and its strength increased to 101 in the due course with several other party MLAs joining the ruling party.

Replying to a discussion on "Telangana State formation-progress achieved in the own state" in the assembly, K Chandrasekhar Rao also known as KCR took potshots at NCP chief Sharad Pawar for saying BRS as "B Team of BJP and straight away associated with the saffron party (in Maharashtra)".

Exuding confidence that BRS will come back to power in the poll-bound Telangana, Rao slammed the Congress party as the state suffered the most during its regime.

This is likely to be the last session of the assembly for the present government as elections are expected to be held at the end of the year.

Rao said, "We ourselves directly declared as a secular party. Both AIMIM and BRS are friendly parties. We will remain together and also in future. We will get good results so that Telangana people or minorities/poor people would benefit." "I can say with guarantee that we would win 100 per cent seven to eight seats more than we got in the last elections. No one needs to have any doubts about it," he added.

If the rulers are sincere and honest, God and nature will also bless and during the past 10 years in the BRS rule, Telangana is able to generate more hydel power and is selling to Rajasthan on returnable basis, he said.

Hitting out at the Congress and BJP, he said both the parties made innumerable promises during Karnataka Assembly polls.

Quoting media reports, he said the Karnataka government now says the state's financial position is not in a position to support the implemention of some of the poll promises and hence the administration is thinking of "diverting SC/ST funds".

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments that freebies for votes are "Revdi Culture", KCR said the same party promised free half litre milk to every household in Karnataka during the assembly elections held recently.

Slamming the Congress, Rao said, "During the Indian National Congress rule in the united state (before bifurcation), 30,000 to 35,000 lakes vanished. They were subjected to encroachment." The Congress party says that it would abolish Dharani portal, an Integrated Land Records Management System when it comes to power. "What do you want to do by abolishing Dharani. Are you thinking of bringing middlemen culture and vultures? Dharani is nothing but empowering democracy and empowering the farming community of Telangana," he said.

Narrating the growth of power capacity in Telangana during the BRS rule, Rao said the state will soon achieve the target of 25,000 MW installed power capacity against the existing capacity of 18,756 MW.

KCR alleged that NTPC which was mandated to set up 4,000 MW plant in the state as per the AP Reorganisation Act, has now taken up only 1,600 MW.

He also said Telangana is in number one position when it comes to per capita power consumption and the national average is nowhere near the state.

Rao said the Centre has declared that Telangana is a zero-Fluorosis state. This is because the state government is providing safe drinking water to people.

On agricultural growth in the state, the chief minister said Telangana currently uses 27-28 lakh tonne of urea for farming activity as against seven lakh tonne earlier.

"During the Congress regime paddy production in Telangana was at 6.8 million tonne. Today it crossed 30 million tonne overtaking Punjab.... We are aiming to increase the paddy production to four crore (forty million tonne)", he said.

KCR said the state government will soon appoint a Pay Revision Commission (PRC) for employees and would also offer interim relief to them.

Cricketer Sarfaraz Khan Gets Married In Kashmir - See Pics

Mumbai cricketer Sarfaraz Khan has married a girl from Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. Several videos have surfaced on social media in which Khan, who plays for Delhi Capitals in the cash-rich IPL, can be seen in a black sherwani at his in-laws' place. Khan even did a tic-tac with a local portal in which he said it was his "destiny to get married in Kashmir". "If the Almighty has destined, I will play for India one day," the cricketer, who has been scoring heavily on the domestic circuit, said. A lot of his fans were also seen thronging to get a glimpse of the cricketer.

Sarfaraz was overlooked by the selectors for Team India's tour of West Indies.

Despite establishing himself as one of the most consistent batters in the domestic circuit, an India call up has eluded Sarfaraz for long. He scored 556 runs in six games at an average of 92.66 in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy campaign with the help of three centuries. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season, he had 982 runs at an average of 122.75.

Taking to Twitter, former India batter Aakash Chopra slammed the selectors over Sarfaraz's non-selection and also questioned the "sanctity of first class cricket".

"Will Sarfraz be remembered as someone who scored a mountain of runs in First-Class cricket and still never got an opportunity to play for India?? I really hope that's not the case. And I hope that what more he needs to do to get picked is communicated to him. Otherwise...the sanctity of first-class cricket (the heart and soul of Indian cricket) will be lost," Chopra tweeted.

Russia Strikes Ukraine Blood Center, Aeronautics Group: Zelensky

Moscow escalated its attacks in Ukraine on Saturday, with President Volodymyr Zelensky denouncing a deadly strike on a blood transfusion centre as a "war crime".

A separate strike struck a key factory, both attacks coming just hours after Kyiv hit a Russian tanker in the Kerch Strait.

The attacks were the latest since Moscow exited a deal last month that had ensured Ukrainian grain exports despite the ongoing conflict.

Russian forces struck the blood transfusion centre in the Kharkiv region of northeast Ukraine, Zelensky said, adding that "dead and wounded are reported".

A "guided air bomb" hit the centre in Kupiansk, a city a few dozen kilometres from the Russian border, said Zelensky.

"Rescuers are extinguishing the fire," he wrote on social media, adding: "This war crime alone says everything about Russian aggression."

The strike came shortly after Zelensky said Russian missiles had hit a facility of the Ukrainian aeronautics group Motor Sich, a maker of plane and helicopter engines and other components.

It is one of several companies requisitioned by the government since Moscow's invasion. The Motor Sich site is near Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine, around 300 kilometres (190 miles) southwest of Kyiv.

The region, home to a major Ukrainian airbase, has been regularly targeted by Russian strikes in recent months.

In his evening address, Zelensky remained defiant, insisting that "no matter how many such Russian attacks there are, they will still do nothing for the enemy".

- Attack on fuel tanker -

Earlier Saturday, Ukraine claimed it "blew up" a Russian tanker, the 'SIG', that was transporting fuel for Russian troops, a Ukrainian security source told AFP.

The tanker was hit at around 11:20 pm (2020 GMT) on Friday south of the Kerch Strait, Russia's Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport said.

The ship was holed at the waterline in the area of the engine room but was still afloat, the agency said.

In a video obtained by AFP purporting to show the attack, a vessel is seen approaching a large ship before the connection cuts off.

The Ukrainian source said the "successful special operation", which involved a naval drone and explosives, was carried out jointly with the navy in Ukrainian territorial waters.

The SIG oil and chemical tanker is under US sanctions for supplying jet fuel to Russian forces in Syria, who are supporting President Bashar al-Assad.

- Crimea focus -

The Russian foreign ministry condemned the attack on a "civilian vessel", adding that the crew had not been injured.

Traffic on a key bridge across the Kerch Strait linking the Moscow-annexed Crimea peninsula to Russia's mainland resumed early on Saturday after a three-hour halt, according to the Russian highways information centre's Telegram channel.

Crimea has been disrupted by several strikes throughout the war but it has seen more frequent attacks in recent weeks.

Russian forces on Saturday downed a drone over the sea near Sevastopol, city governor Mikhail Razvozhayev said.

Tensions have risen on the Black Sea overall since Russia pulled out of the agreement protecting grain exports via the shipping hub during the conflict.

On Friday, Ukraine struck the Olenegorsky Gornyak vessel at the Novorossiysk base in southern Russia, a Ukrainian security source told AFP, "to show that Ukraine can attack any Russian warship in that zone".

Russia said it had repelled the attempted attack.

- Frontline fighting -

On the front line, Russia said Saturday it had captured the settlement of Novoselivske in northeastern Ukraine, where Kyiv said it was confronted with a growing number of attacks.

Footage from the Russian army showed Novoselivske completely destroyed, with white smoke billowing over crumbling buildings.

Ukrainian army spokeswoman Ganna Malyar said Friday that Russian troops were aiming to draw Ukrainian resources to the east, as Ukraine pursues its counter-offensive in the south.

Ukraine began a fresh attempt in June to push back Russian troops but it has made only modest progress, its forces contending with well-entrenched Russian positions built up over several months.

With both sides focused on winning on the battlefield, any chance to secure peace looks thin.

Saudi Arabia is nevertheless hosting talks on the war with representatives from nearly 40 countries -- including China, India and South Africa -- but not Russia.

The talks concluded Saturday and as expected, no final declaration was released.

But a European source said there had been agreement that respect for Ukraine's "territorial integrity and sovereignty" should be "at the heart of any peace settlement".

"Resorting To Cheap Politics": BJP Hits Out At DMK Over Language Row

The BJP's Tamil Nadu chief, K Annamalai, on Saturday accused the ruling DMK government of "doing politics" over Hindi and Tamil languages after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark that Hindi must be accepted and embraced by one and all without any opposition triggered a war of words between the two parties.

On state minister and DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin condemning Amit Shah's statement, advocating the acceptance of Hindi as a medium of communication, Annamalai said, "Stalin knows neither Hindi nor English. So he didn't understand what Amit Shah said."

The BJP state chief said Amit Shah made it very clear that education in all states should be imparted in the mother tongue.

"DMK is still resorting to cheap politics on Hindi and Tamil languages. Stalin and his ministers have nothing else to talk about and have, hence, resorted to making statements on matters without understanding them," Annamalai said at a rally in Madurai on Saturday.

Earlier, on Friday, Union Home Minister, presiding over the 38th meeting of the Committee of Parliament on Official Language in New Delhi, said Hindi must be accepted without opposition even if the pace of the acceptance is slow, according to media reports.

Amit Shah added that Hindi was not in competition with other languages and the country will be enriched and empowered if all Indian languages are promoted and accepted.

In response, Chief Minister MK Stalin said they wouldn't be "enslaved" by Hindi.

"I strongly denounce Union Home Minister @AmitShah's audacious push for Hindi acceptance. It's a blatant attempt to subjugate non-Hindi speakers. Tamil Nadu rejects any form of Hindi hegemony and imposition. Our language and heritage define us - we won't be enslaved by Hindi!," Stalin tweeted on Saturday.

While calling for the acceptance of Hindi, the Union Home Minister and the BJP stalwart pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi invokes Tamil pride on his overseas visits.

Annamalai said he was certain that the DMK will not fare well in next year's general elections and will, in fact, end up losing the polls.

On Supreme Court staying the conviction of Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case over the use of the surname 'Modi', he said it was good that the decks have been cleared for the Congress leader to return to the Parliament.

"The more Rahul Gandhi speaks in Parliament, the better it will be for the Bharatiya Janata Party as we will only get stronger," the BJP leader said, in a jibe at the Congress leader.

Further, accusing the ruling party in the state of "looting" resources meant for public good, Annamalai said, "(Minister) Senthil Balaji, who is in prison (in connection with a cash-for-jobs scam) is still being paid a salary. If the DMK ministers bring out all the money they have looted, the debt of Tamil Nadu, as well as the country, could be paid off."

He also hit out at CM Stalin for not raising the Cauvery water dispute, a bone of contention between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, during the second Opposition meeting in Congress-ruled Karnataka.
