Amazon Great Indian Festival: Echo Products Available With Discounts

Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023 is still running strong, heading into the next phase, offering huge discounts on electronics, fashion, and more. With Diwali season nearing day by day, we figured now would be the perfect time to gift your loved ones some useful appliances such as smart speakers. Let Alexa keep track of your biggest tasks of the day as you take a breather and listen to that one audiobook you've been putting off for a while. Why not consider something like the fourth-gen Echo Dot with Clock, which, in addition to digitally displaying the time, presents weather information and can be used to set timers or spell out words? The globe-shaped design allows for music to be projected all around it, and it's priced at Rs. 3,249, after a 41 percent discount.

As usual, customers can avail of additional discounts — on top of the original deal — based on their bank during the Amazon Great Indian Festival 2023. The aforementioned limited-time deal ends soon, so if you were looking to take advantage of the additional 10 percent discount levied on all SBI card purchases, be quick. This time, any purchases above Rs. 5,000 made on an SBI debit card instantly hack off 10 percent of the total cost. Today, on October 19, customers can avail a maximum discount of Rs. 750. There are also EMI options for SBI Credit card holders during this festive season, which is expected to end soon.

There's also an Amazon listing that packages the Echo Dot with a Wipro LED Smart Color Bulb at just Rs. 150 extra. If you're in the market for something more compact, fret not — the new Echo Pop is the perfect choice for you since it's designed to be seated in smaller spaces. Bear in mind that it's got a flat-facing surface, so the audio is only projected from the frontal mesh, just like a standard desk speaker. Unlike the Echo Dot, the less-expensive Pop comes in more colour options as well and is available at a 41 percent discount for Rs. 2,949. There's also the Amazon Echo Show 8, which adds a display screen to the speaker. This is clearly the most expensive of the bunch, costing Rs. 8,649 (42 percent off and comes with a Mi smart bulb). This limited-time offer closes at 9:30 pm.

Here are the Top Deals on Echo Speakers During Amazon's Great Indian Festival Sale

Devendra Fadnavis Reacts After Wheelchair-Bound Woman's Complaint On X

Virali Modi, a disability rights activist, and India's first wheelchair-using model, took to X on Wednesday to share her disappointing experience at a registrar's office in Mumbai. The activist revealed that she went to get married at the Registrar's Office in Khar, Mumbai on October 16 but the office was on the second floor with no access for disabled people. With no lift available, she had to be carried up two flights of stairs for the process. More so, the stairs were steep and railing was loose and rusty and no one offered any help to her.

Her tweet read, ''PLEASE RT! I am disabled and I got married at the Registrar's Office in Khar Mumbai on 16/10/23. The office was on the 2nd floor WITHOUT a lift. They wouldn't come downstairs for the signatures and I had to be carried up two flights of stairs to get married.'' She also shared pictures showing her marriage certificate.

See the tweet here:

She went on to reveal that her agent who was handling her marriage registration paperwork was aware of her disability.

She further wrote, ''How is this fair? What happened to the Accessible India campaign? Just because I'm a wheelchair user, do I not have the right to get married to someone I love? What if someone had slipped and what if I had fallen on my wedding day? Who is responsible?''

She said that she's disheartened that her country's government as well as citizens are unable to accommodate her disability. ''My faith in humanity has been destroyed by this ordeal. I am not a piece of luggage that needs to be carried up two floors. I am a human being and my rights matter,'' she added.

Ms Modi further said that her country must accommodate her needs and those of other disabled citizens. ''This is extremely unfair, unprecedented, and unexpected. My rights matter! This was a government building and the people in charge of running this country should lead from the front,'' she concluded.

Her viral tweet caught the attention of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who said that he would personally take cognizance and corrective and appropriate action. ''First of all many congratulations on the new beginnings and I wish you both a very happy and beautiful married life! Also, I really am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you. I have personally taken cognisance and will take corrective and appropriate action,'' he wrote.

Several people on the internet also empathised with her and highlighted the importance of inclusive facilities and services for disabled people. One user wrote, ''Congratulations on your wedding! It is extremely appalling and sad to hear about the ordeal that you had to go through on your special day. I am determined to personally look into this to ensure that no one else has to face the same in future.''

Another said, ''Our public infrastructure overall needs to be more disabled friendly.''

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also wrote, '' This is absolutely shameful by the Registrar's office. Will definitely take this up.''

Joe Biden's Israel, Lebanon Trip To Be The Riskiest Of His Presidency

Joe Biden heads to the Middle East on potentially the riskiest trip of his presidency Tuesday, aiming to thread the needle between supporting Israel against Hamas, averting catastrophe in Gaza and preventing a regional war.

The US president will fly into a war zone for high-stakes talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in key ally Israel on Wednesday, then head to Jordan for a four-way summit with regional leaders.

The 80-year-old Biden's diplomatic drive will be one of the biggest gambles of his long career in both political and security terms, and a test of US influence in a tinderbox region.

"He's coming here at a critical moment for Israel, for the region and for the world," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said as he announced Joe Biden's visit during his own marathon diplomatic drive.

The New York Times called it a "trip fraught with risks".

President Biden made a top-secret trip to war-torn Ukraine last year to demonstrate US support for the pro-Western country's battle against Russian invasion.

Despite frequent air raid warnings, US officials say the security threat to Joe Biden in Israel is lower. But the political stakes on this visit are arguably far greater.

President Blinken said the president wanted to show "ironclad" support for Israel after the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas burst through its heavily fortified Gaza border on October 7, shooting, stabbing and burning to death more than 1,400 people, most of them civilians.

The show of solidarity is especially important in US thinking amid fears that Iran or its Lebanese ally Hezbollah could get involved. Washington has sent two aircraft carriers to the region to deter them.

However, the Democratic president deliberated carefully before accepting the invitation to visit from right-winger Netanyahu, who has ordered preparations for what is expected to be a bloody ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza.

The risk is that Joe Biden finds himself too closely associated with an Israeli invasion of Gaza, which is already being subjected to a withering campaign of air strikes that have leveled swaths of the enclave and killed more than 2,700 people.

'Right time'

Asked if Washington expected Israel to wait until after President Biden's trip to launch any ground offensive, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, "we're not dictating terms or operational directions to the Israelis."

Joe Biden's display of support for Israel also crashes against a potentially contradictory aim: ongoing US and international efforts to ease the devastating impact of the war on Palestinian civilians.

He has in recent days increased pressure on Israel to protect civilian lives from the air strikes and a siege that has left Gaza at risk of a humanitarian disaster.

"The president believes that this is exactly the right time to go to Israel and to go to Jordan," Kirby told CNN on Tuesday.

President Biden will "speak to other leaders in the region, about the humanitarian assistance that we want to make sure gets into Gaza, about Israeli plans and intentions going forward," he added.

In Jordan, Joe Biden will meet King Abdullah II of Jordan and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt -- the first two Arab countries to make peace with Israel -- as well as Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, a Hamas foe based in the West Bank.

Talks with Sisi are likely to focus on his refusal so far to open the Rafah border crossing to Palestinians massed in southern Gaza as they flee the expected Israeli invasion.

Jordan's royal court voiced hopes that the four-way summit could help "revive the peace process" between Palestinians and Israel, which has been at a standstill for years.

The world, and America's rivals like China and Russia, will be watching the results of Biden's trip closely.

The US president however has rejected questions about whether Washington would be overstretched by supporting allies at war in both Israel and Ukraine.

"We're the United States of America for God's sake. The most powerful nation in the history of the world," Joe Biden said in an interview broadcast on the CBS News program 60 Minutes at the weekend.

"Sensational...": Sehwag, World Salute Netherlands' Stunning WC Win vs SA

Coming into Tuesday's ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 match between South Africa and Netherlands, one would have hardly believed that the heavyweights Proteas were in for a shocker. But the Scott Edwards-led Netherlands believed in themselves. In the end, they scripted one of the best wins in ODI World Cup history by getting the better of world No. 3 South Africa. Netherlands, the world No. 14 ODI team in the world, played like a top side to stun South Africa, which has been one of the best sides in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Batting first, in a 43-over-a-side match owing to rain delay, Netherlands notched a good total of 245/8 with their skipper Scott Edwards scoring a fantastic 69-ball 78*. In reply, South Africa's chase never really took as they were all out for 207 in 452.5 overs. This is Netherlands's third-ever World Cup win and their first since 2007.

"Wow ! What an effort by the Dutch. So much to like about the way they go about their business. Scott Edwards was sensational in the last 10 overs with the bat and then the Netherlands' bowlers did the job in style. #NEDvsSA," Virender Sehwag praised Netherlands' effort.

"A beautiful game at a beautiful place with such an unexpected result...Count me in every time! Had so much fun today...Way to go Netherlands... brilliant! #SAvsNED," wrote Dinesh Karthik on X.

"Netherlands many many congratulations on your historic win. You were discipline thru out the game. Specially in bowling. Wo chitthi mein kya hai???  #NEDvSA" wrote Irfan Pathan

Netherlands caused the second big upset of this World Cup on Tuesday as they defeated fancied South Africa by 38 runs in Dharamsala. A three-wicket haul by Logan van Beek, a half-century by skipper Scott Edwards and an all-round show by Roelof van der Merwe helped the Netherlands beat South Africa, two days after Afghanistan caused an upset by defeating England.

South Africa are now at the third spot with two wins and a loss and four points. The Netherlands are at ninth with a win, two losses.

Chasing 246 runs in 43 overs, the Proteas started decently, with Quinton de Kock and skipper Temba Bavuma unleashing some big hits. However, Colin Ackermann ended the partnership between the duo at 36 runs, dismissing de Kock for 20 as he was caught by Scott Edwards. South Africa were 36/1 in eight overs.

In the next two overs or so, the game swung in favour of the Netherlands as they got rid of skipper Bavuma (16) after he was cleaned up by Roelef van der Merwe. Paul van Meekeren clean-bowled Aiden Markram for just one. Merwe in his next over also removed Rassie van der Dussen for four runs after being caught by Aryan Dutt. South Africa were 44/4 in 11.2 overs.

Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, the backbone of Protea's middle-order started to rebuild the innings and the team reached the 50-run mark in 12.5 overs.

Klaasen-Miller were nearing a fifty-run partnership when Klaasen was removed by Logan van Beek for 28. He was caught by Vikramjit Singh at fine leg. Proteas were 89/5 in 18.5 overs.

Miller with Marco Jansen took Proteas beyond the 100-run mark in 22.2 overs.

Meekeran delivered another blow to Proteas by rattling Jansen's stumps when he was at nine. Proteas were now 109/6 in 25 overs.

Miller and Gerald Coetzee continued the innings and brought down the deficit to just a little more than 100 runs.

Just when Miller looked threatening and van Beek clean-bowled him for 43 runs. Coetzee did not last much longer and was removed for 22 after he was caught by Scott Edwards. Bas de Leede got the wicket. The Proteas were 147/8 in 33.1 overs.

Dukaan CEO's Sarcastic Response After Facing Backlash Over Service Fee

Dukaan, a popular DIY platform that enables merchants to set up their e-commerce store, is being slammed on X after it started levying service charges on its services. It all started when an X user complained about the fee and questioned Dukaan's commitment to affordability. The user also informed that Dukaan started this practice on October 10, 2023. Many users chimed in and shared their opinions on the platform's newly implemented move.

A user named Harsh Punjabi wrote, ''So @mydukaanapp has started charging a service fee per order. This fee wasn't there before and has been levied from 10th October 2023. This effectively makes Dukaan expensive now. Their initial promise of a low-cost ecom platform is vanishing away.''

He also shared a screenshot of the service charges that have been set up for different plans on the eCommerce platform.

See the tweet here:

Several users questioned the move, with some calling it ''really bad,''

One user wrote, ''Damn! Glad I didn't go with them. Services fee as high as 5% on top of gateway charges.'' Another commented, ''They are also charging 4 Rs per cancellation even if you cancel it after 10 seconds or even if you don't accept the order and someone cancels it. For every flow testing you need to pay them which is really bad.''

A third said, ''Just a natural course of any startup. Once it steps into corp mode, its a corp now. Deal with it. pay up or wait for a new player to enjoy all the low cost/discounts and the cycle continues.''

Amid all the chatter, Dukaan also dived in with a cryptic response to one of the comments by a user named Shantanu Goel. The official X handle of My Dukaan App shared a screenshot of its website, and wrote, ''Well. No wonder you don't have to worry about your transaction fees. Cannot set properties of undefined (setting 'cart')''.

The user responded with a touch of sarcasm, ''Ladies and gentlemen, this is Dukaan's great 'AI' customer service trying to be a budget-friendly Wendy's. No wonder they need to cut costs everywhere, all their customers probably already left.''

That was not it. Seems like Suumit Shah, the founder of Dukaan, also couldn't resist. Poking fun at the user, he shared a new logo for him that read ''something went wrong.'' He also wrote, ''Here's the new logo for you - OF COURSE designed by AI.''

Meanwhile, a lot of users who were invested in the service charge debate were shocked by Mr Shah's ''sarcastic'' and ''immature'' responses.

Rebuking him, one user wrote, ''Instead of bantering on Twitter, maybe focus your energy on the betterment of your app? Don't know about operational costs, but your ratings are going down Funnily enough, the major complaint is management  So look inward, maybe?''

Another said, ''Like really? And this 'kid' has been called a legendary founder. Much wow!''

A third had a word of advice for him. He wrote, ''@suumitshah, Instead of a passive-aggressive tweet, focus on your work. You literally got the money when it was abundant in the market. if you're such an amazing founder why don't you go ahead and raise the money now.''

Previously in July, Mr Shah faced the anger of social media users after he announced that his company had replaced 90% of its customer care crew with an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot. The CEO tweeted a justification of his decision and added that this challenging move was done to achieve profitability.
