Gill Livid After GT's Loss vs KKR, Throws Team Under Bus: "Didn't Deserve Win"

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill did not hide his frustration as his side fell to a 29-run defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their IPL 2026 encounter in Kolkata on Saturday. GT dropped four catches during their bowling innings, which costed them dearly. KKR opener Finn Allen was dropped twice, and he went on to make 93 runs off 35 balls, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dropped once, and made GT pay with a knock of 82 off 44. Gill stated that GT "didn't deserve to win" due to their fielding mistakes.

"No concerns but our fielding could've been a lot better. We set a certain standard and dropping 3 sitters - we didn't deserve to win this one," Gill said, speaking after the match.

“Looking at the wicket, 200‑210 was par score, but we dropped too many catches. Pitch was good, the odd one was stopping, but I felt we batted well to get to the score we did," he added.

KKR are now at sixth spot and behind the Punjab Kings, who are at fourth place. GT, who had thrived in bowler‑friendly conditions during their winning run, were undone by Eden Gardens' batting surface and a poor fielding display, with Allen's explosive 93 proving to be the difference.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane lauded his batters for their intent, as they posted a massive 247/2. “Very good game, really happy with two points. Amazing to see Allen, Angkrish, and Green's knocks. Credit goes to these batters. Preparation has always been fantastic. Talk was all about taking one game at a time. Intent was amazing. Don't forget they're a quality bowling attack. It was amazing to see batters going out there and dominating.”

Speaking of bowlers, Rahane lauded Saurabh Dubey and Sunil Narine. “It's all about trusting their ability. All these guys have been doing well in the domestic season. Saurabh Dubey played well in the Vidarbha league. When he came here, all the coaches thought he had the talent.

“Credit to these guys who have been doing well, working hard, it's all about belief and confidence. Makes my job easy when you know Sunil Narine is in the team. Varun was struggling, but credit to him as well. The courage to play with a sore foot,” he said.

Trump Leaves China With Big Claims, Few Details And No Confirmation

US President Donald Trump wrapped up his two-day visit to Beijing on Friday by declaring that his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping had produced major economic gains for Washington, including large-scale purchases of American aircraft, agricultural goods and energy and medical products.

Speaking before departing China, Trump said the meetings had resulted in "fantastic trade deals" and settled "a lot of different problems" in his meetings with China's Xi Jinping this week. However, the details of the deals and problems Trump has spoken about have not come to light yet.

"We've made some fantastic trade deals, great for both countries," Trump said after taking a walk with Xi through the gardens of Zhongnanhai, the leadership compound adjacent to the Forbidden City.

"We've settled a lot of different problems that other people wouldn't have been able to solve," he added, though he did not specify which issues had been resolved.

According to Trump and senior US officials, Beijing agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, with the possibility of hundreds more in the future, along with billions of dollars worth of American soybeans, oil, medical equipment and agricultural exports.

However, despite the sweeping claims from the US side, Chinese officials offered little public confirmation. Beijing refrained from formally announcing any of the agreements, and the foreign ministry did not confirm or deny Trump's statements when questioned by reporters.

Trump Says Xi Offered Help On Hormuz Crisis

Beyond trade, Trump also claimed progress had been made on one of the most sensitive geopolitical flashpoints - the Strait of Hormuz.

After the summit's opening day, the US president said Xi had indicated a willingness to help keep the crucial shipping route open amid growing tensions linked to Iran.

"He'd like to see the Hormuz Strait open, and said 'if I can be of any help whatsoever, I would like to help'," Trump said during an interview with Fox News.

The remarks came as Iran's confrontation with the West continues to threaten maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, a vital route for global oil shipments.

While China's foreign ministry later issued a statement saying "shipping lanes should be reopened as soon as possible", a ministry spokesperson did not confirm whether Xi had directly offered assistance to Washington on the issue.

Trump said that Xi had reassured him China was not preparing to provide military assistance to Tehran, though Beijing again made no public reference to such assurances.

Beijing Stays Quiet As Trump Touts 'Victories'

The contrast between Trump's enthusiastic messaging and China's restrained response became one of the defining features of the summit.

Throughout the visit, Trump repeatedly praised Xi, referring to him as a "great leader" and a "friend", while projecting the meetings as a diplomatic and economic success for the United States.

In another interview following the summit, Trump said Xi had agreed to several items on Washington's economic wishlist, including purchases of Boeing aircraft and American farm goods.

"One business deal struck involved Xi agreeing to purchase '200 big' Boeing jets," Trump said.

Later, while travelling back aboard Air Force One, he expanded on the claim, saying the agreement could eventually involve "a promise of 750 planes... if they do a good job with the 200".

Trump further stated that China had "agreed it wanted to buy" US oil and would also be "buying billions of dollars of soybeans".

Yet Chinese authorities continued to maintain silence on the specifics, neither confirming nor denying the reported deals.

Stephen Olson, a former US trade negotiator, told The New York Times that the summit was less about dramatic breakthroughs and more about stabilising ties between the world's two largest economies.

"No major breakthroughs were expected and none were achieved, but both countries got what they needed from this summit, a bit of additional stability," Olson said.

According to Olson, both leaders walked away with political advantages. Trump gained economic announcements he could present as victories at home, while Xi used the meeting to reinforce China's standing on the global stage.

Mr Xi presented China "as a full peer competitor to the United States, a country that does not need to bend the knee to US demands", Olson said.

Iran, Trade, Taiwan On Cards As Trump Set To Meet Xi Jinping In Beijing

US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping are set to tackle thorny issues dividing the two superpowers when they meet in Beijing on Thursday, with Iran, trade and Taiwan on the cards.

Xi will greet Trump with pomp and ceremony as they meet at 10:00 am (0200 GMT) in the opulent Great Hall of the People, a lavish welcome that belies the deep tensions between the world's biggest economies.

The two leaders will also enjoy a state banquet at the hall in the evening, and Trump will visit the historic Temple of Heaven, a World Heritage site where China's emperors once prayed for good harvest.

The US president arrived for the two-day summit on Air Force One late Wednesday accompanied by top CEOs, including Nvidia's Jensen Huang and Tesla's Elon Musk -- symbols of business deals Trump hopes to reach.

He was given a red carpet welcome, with 300 Chinese youth in white uniforms chanting "welcome" and waving small Chinese and US flags in unison as he descended the steps of the presidential plane pumping his fist.

On Friday, Trump and Xi are set to have tea and a working lunch before the US president heads home to Washington.

The trip to Beijing marks the first by a US president in nearly a decade, after Trump visited in 2017, accompanied -- unlike this time -- by his wife Melania.

Following that first visit, Trump unleashed a barrage of tariffs and restrictions on Chinese goods. He did so again after returning to the White House last year, triggering a trade war before Xi and Trump agreed to a truce in October.

'Big Hug'

Trump has said he expects a "great big hug" from Xi as he banks on what he believes is a strong personal relationship with the Chinese leader who he has admiringly said rules China with an "iron fist".

Top of his wish list will be business deals on agriculture, aircraft and other topics, with a host of top businessmen in the US leader's delegation.

Aboard Air Force One en route to Beijing, Trump vowed on social media to push Xi to "open up" China to US firms "so that these brilliant people can work their magic".

The Chinese foreign ministry said Wednesday it "welcomes" Trump's visit and that "China stands ready to work with the United States...to expand cooperation and manage differences".

But Trump is dealing with a different and more emboldened China to the one he visited nine years ago, with a host of unresolved trade and geopolitical tensions between the two countries.

The Iran war in particular has threatened to weaken Trump's position in talks with Xi, having already forced him to postpone it from March.

The US president said he expected a "long talk" with Xi about Iran, which sells most of its US-sanctioned oil to China, but insisted that "I don't think we need any help with Iran" from Beijing.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio struck a somewhat different tone.

"We hope to convince them to play a more active role in getting Iran to walk away from what they are doing now, and trying to do now in the Persian Gulf," US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told broadcaster Fox News in an interview aired Wednesday.

Tariff Truce?

The long-simmering trade war between the two countries will also be top of the agenda, after Trump's sweeping tariffs last year triggered tit-for-tat levies that exceeded 100 per cent.

Trump and Xi are set to discuss extending a one-year tariff truce, which the two leaders reached during their last meeting in South Korea in October, although a deal is far from certain.

On Taiwan, another issue that has bedevilled ties, Trump said Monday he would speak to Xi about US arms sales to the self-governing democracy claimed by China.

That would be a departure from historic US insistence that it will not consult Beijing on its support for the island, and one which will be closely watched by Taipei and US allies in the region.

China's controls on rare earth exports, AI rivalry and the countries' raucous trade relationship are also among the topics expected to be taken up by the two heads of state.

Both sides will be looking to come out of the summit with whatever wins they can, while also stabilising an often tense relationship between Beijing and Washington that has global implications.

Trump will also be hoping to leave with a firm date for a reciprocal visit by Xi to the United States later in 2026, to prove his rapport with his Chinese counterpart.

MI React On Hardik Pandya's Absence For Two Straight Matches In IPL 2026

It has been a challenging period for five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians without regular skipper Hardik Pandya, but the game moves on, all-rounder Corbin Bosch said on Wednesday. A narrow loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur on Sunday knocked Mumbai Indians out of playoff contention this season, with Pandya missing the match due to a back spasm. The clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru was the third group-stage game Pandya missed this season, having also sat out the away fixture against Delhi Capitals and the home game against Lucknow Super Giants.

"It's obviously been tough. Hardik is not only a leader but a fantastic cricketer as well. We've missed his presence when it comes to the on-field stuff," Bosch told reporters on the eve of MI's contest against Punjab Kings.

"I'm sure the people who are making decisions and the people who are looking after him are trying to do the best for him and for the team itself.

"It has been tricky but at the same time the game does move forward and we still need to play cricket, so it's one of those things," Bosch added.

Suryakumar Yadav has stepped in on all three occasions when Pandya was unavailable, and the India T20I skipper could lead the side for a fourth time this season here on Thursday.

Mumbai Indians are languishing in the second-last spot in the 10-team points table, and all-rounder Bosch said the team's struggles this season stem from their inability to put together a complete performance.

"We just have not put together a complete game. One day it's been the bowlers who would do well and the batters struggle a little bit, or the next day the batters do well and the bowlers struggle," he said.

"The key moments in the game, which this team is known for winning, we just haven't done that this year. Maybe dropping crucial chances at crucial stages of the game that have swung the game in the opposite direction. It's a multitude of things, but at the same time, going into each game, we make sure that we leave no stone unturned," Bosch added.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings assistant bowling coach Trevor Gonsalves said the side remains focused on cricketing matters and is not distracted by the noise around the team.

Punjab Kings, last year's finalists, have attracted attention on social media because of the off-field conduct of some of their players.

"Yes, today social media plays a big role, and the news in the media plays a big role. How the big players handle themselves against all these things is absolutely important," Gonsalves said when asked how the team is handling the talk on social media and criticism of the squad.

Gonsalves said such matters cannot be taught to players.

"You don't need anyone to teach them, first of all. They are big enough. They know how to control themselves. As far as we are concerned, we are more concerned about the cricketing part," he said.

"Any blogger or any person can go and put up anything on social media, and there are lakhs of people agreeing to it and saying yes or no. But, frankly speaking, we are not too concerned about what social media says. At present, we are only concerned and worried about tomorrow's game and how we are moving forward in the cricketing part," he added.

Bomb With 7-Hour Timer Found Near Pune Hospital, Removed By Disposal Squad

A bomb equipped with a seven-hour timer was found outside a hospital in the Kamdhenu Estate area of Pune's Hadapsar on Wednesday, causing panic in the vicinity.

The suspicious object was discovered near the hospital premises. Police immediately alerted the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the fire brigade. Teams, including a dog squad, reached the spot and cordoned off the area.

BDDS personnel examined the object and shifted it to an open, secure location away from the hospital for further checks. Senior officers also visited the site as investigations began.

Preliminary findings indicate the device was a live bomb containing explosive material and a functional timer.

"A low-grade explosive IED was found in the city; investigation is underway on a war footing. The bomb was defused in an open field," said Pune City Police Commissioner Nitesh Kumar.

Crime Branch and local police are now working to determine how the bomb was placed there and who was responsible.

No casualties or injuries have been reported. Authorities said the situation is under control, and operations are ongoing to trace the origin of the device.

Nora Reacts After Fans Compare Body Roll To Love, Death + Robots Episode

Nora Fatehi and Yo Yo Honey Singh's latest track, Body Roll, has found itself at the centre of an online controversy shortly after its release. While the music video has been praised for its grand visuals and Nora's performance, several viewers have accused the makers of heavily borrowing from Jibaro, the critically acclaimed episode from Netflix's animated anthology series Love, Death + Robots.

Social Media Points Out Similarities

The Body Roll video opens with a man dressed in medieval-style clothing running through a forest before arriving at a lake. As he drinks water, the camera highlights his rugged look, complete with elaborate jewellery and tattoos.

Moments later, Nora Fatehi makes a dramatic entrance from the lake, adorned in golden attire, intricate headgear, and heavy jewellery, before the visuals shift into a stylised dance sequence featuring the actor and backup dancers.

Viewers quickly began comparing these visuals to Jibaro, which premiered in 2022. Directed by Alberto Mielgo, the episode follows a conquistador wandering through the jungle who encounters a mysterious, siren-like entity covered in gold jewellery emerging from a lake.

Many online users argued that the visual aesthetic, costume design, and overall setup in Body Roll felt too similar to be coincidental.

The online conversation intensified after content creator Filmy Sonia shared side-by-side visuals from Body Roll and Jibaro on Instagram, prompting even more discussion among fans and critics.

While some users accused the music video of copying the animated short, others defended the makers, calling it a case of visual inspiration rather than imitation.

Nora Fatehi reacted to the comparison video shared online. Commenting on the post, the actress wrote, "Inspired and obsessed! Now we have a real life version."

Created by Tim Miller, Love, Death + Robots is known for its standalone stories exploring fantasy, science fiction, horror, and technology. Mewar Princess On How She Helped Grow Royal Wealth: "Money Wasn't Unlimited"

Princess Jahnavi Kumari Mewar, a member of Rajasthan's Mewar royal family, has shared how she helped transform her family's investment operations into a formal multi-family office while preserving and growing generational wealth. In an as-told-to essay for Business Insider, Jahnavi reflected on her upbringing inside the royal household, her introduction to business, and the challenges of managing legacy wealth in a modern financial landscape.

Jahnavi, who runs her family's multi-family office and founded private equity firm Auctus Fora, said she grew up in the family palace alongside her cousins, where younger members of the royal family were encouraged to confidently interact with visiting dignitaries and guests from around the world.

"I had this most tremendous privilege of birth. The last official, government-recognized king in India was my grandfather's elder brother, and then after that, the monarchy didn't really exist. It turned into a democracy. I grew up as most kids would. The difference was that I ended up going to school within the palace with my cousins" she said.

She recalled learning about different cultures, guiding visitors through family properties, and participating in conversations from a young age - experiences that helped shape her confidence and communication skills.

Entry into Business

Although her parents did not expect her to join the family business, Jahnavi said she was always fascinated by her father's work. Over time, she became increasingly involved in the business, sitting through meetings, reviewing documents, asking questions, and gradually developing an understanding of investment management and precision in decision-making.

Despite belonging to a royal family, she stressed that wealth was never treated as unlimited or guaranteed. While studying business and international trade in Melbourne, she worked three jobs in catering, club promotion, and telemarketing alongside university.

"When I went to university, I got a car, my rent was paid for, and I got pocket money, but it was never unlimited. I worked three jobs while still doing my assignments and going to classes. I worked for a catering company, as a club promoter, and as a telemarketer. It was a nightmare — that's when the privilege comes in," she added.

In her early twenties, Jahnavi took charge of restructuring the family's investment company into a formalised family office. She explained that her father and his close circle had historically focused on solidarity and co-investment rather than profitability, with her family carrying much of the portfolio management costs.

Determined to professionalise operations, she pushed for investors to begin covering their own expenses. She revealed that after her father dismissed the idea, she announced the policy change herself during a family gathering. Jahnavi also described how the family office shifted towards a more globally opportunistic investment approach, treating emerging markets as long-term priorities rather than secondary bets. She said the business also moved away from excessive reliance on intermediaries such as accountants, investment bankers, and advisors in order to improve accountability and efficiency.

Reflecting on her career, Jahnavi acknowledged the challenge of entering rooms dominated by older and more experienced investors. However, she said she focused on being unapologetic about her presence while continuing to listen and learn. At the same time, she credited senior advisers and longtime associates, whom she referred to as the dinosaur squad, for teaching her the importance of protecting family wealth before taking major financial risks.

"It's a very precarious balance. I also learned a lot from what I call the "dinosaur squad." They're protective toward my parents. They want to protect the portfolio assets. They are very risk-averse. They made me understand the absolute need for preservation before shooting the lights out," she said.

About Princess Jahnavi Kumari Mewar

Princess Jahnavi Kumari Mewar is a 77th-generation member of the Mewar dynasty and a prominent businesswoman operating in global capital markets. She is the CEO of Auctus Fora, a multi-family office investment firm, and is recognized for transforming her family's wealth management into a modern, formal, and global structure

  • She has over two decades of investment experience, including leading roles at JPM Capital and JSV Investments. She founded this platform to connect wealth, governance, and public welfare, focusing on global challenges like food/water insecurity and climate resilience.

Kevin Hart Roast Takes Wild Turn As Shane Gillis Drops Explosive Epstein Reference

Kevin Hart was meant to be the main focus at Netflix's Roast of the comedian-actor, but the attention quickly shifted to Shane Gillis and Chelsea Handler, who ended up trading sharp barbs on stage. Gillis, who hosted the event, spoke about a dinner Handler reportedly attended in 2010 that included Jeffrey Epstein, two years after his prison sentence for a solicitation of prostitution from a minor.

He also mentioned that the gathering was small, saying only a few people were present, including Prince Andrew and Woody Allen. Gillis even told the audience that he considered all of this part of a roast performance and suggested that people can find information about the dinner in public reports online.

Before welcoming Chelsea Handler on stage, Shane Gillis said, “Chelsea is a Zionist. I'm not saying that's good or bad. Speaking of dead kids, she's big fan of abortions. Chelsea has been scraped more times than the grill at Benihana. Speaking of tossing tiny shrimp into a child's mouth, Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein's house in 2010. Look it up, there are articles. It wasn't like a big party, there were like seven guests. Prince Andrew and Woody Allen was there.”

Handler then responded directly to Gillis' remarks during the roast, while clearing that being Jewish and supporting Zionism are not the same thing. She also added a comparison, saying that different cultural areas like Chinatown and Koreatown are not the same either.

Handler then shifted the focus to Gillis' past controversy with Saturday Night Live, where he was removed before officially joining the show after old clips of him using offensive language about Asian surfaced online.

After making jokes about Shane Gillis and some other guests, Chelsea Handler also returned to the topic involving Jeffrey Epstein. She said, “Welcome to tonight's episode of To Catch a Predator. This is a real who's who of statutory rapists. We're all just lucky none of you could afford an island.”

Chelsea Handler has often said that she only went to one dinner at Epstein's home. She has made it clear that she never visited his controversial private island and never had a close relationship with him. She has also tried to separate herself from Epstein, saying that the meeting was limited to a single event and nothing more.

Watch: Rare Waterspout Forms Off Odisha's Puri Coast, Stuns Tourists

Tourists and locals were left spellbound on Saturday as a rare waterspout formed off the Astaranga coast in Odisha's Puri district. As dark clouds gathered over the sea, a long, elephant-trunk-like funnel descended from the sky toward the water, where a swirling vortex formed. The Meteorological Department said that the phenomenon was caused by unstable weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal and advised fishermen to remain vigilant.

In the local dialect, this phenomenon is referred to as 'Hatisunda' (Elephant's Trunk). According to eyewitnesses, dark, rain-laden clouds gathered over the sea on Saturday afternoon, and the weather suddenly turned stormy. Within moments, a long, funnel-shaped column began to descend from the clouds toward the ocean's surface.

The column bore a striking resemblance to an elephant's trunk, while a swirling vortex formed on the water's surface directly beneath it. Crowds gathered quickly, and many began recording the rare event on their mobile phones.

What Is a Waterspout?

In meteorological terms, this phenomenon is known as a waterspout. It is a powerful, rotating column of air that forms over oceans, lakes, or large reservoirs. A waterspout occurs when warm, moist air rises rapidly and interacts with an unstable atmospheric environment beneath storm clouds.

Such phenomena are occasionally observed along the Odisha coast during periods of atmospheric instability in the Bay of Bengal. Experts have advised fishermen and boat operators to remain alert the moment such a system begins to form at sea.

'Mamata Banerjee Not God': Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul On Poll Results

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul, who on Saturday joined new West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's core team by swearing in as a minister, told NDTV in an interview that the Trinamool Congress leaders treated Mamata Banerjee as God, but the recent poll drubbing has shown that she is neither a divine being nor above the law.

"Mamata Banerjee has already, you know, got the answer. She said so much, Abhishek Banerjee said so much. But the people of Bengal have given their mandate, and Mamata Banerjee should realise she is not above the law. She is not above India's Constitution, and she is not God. Her colleagues, her MLAs and MPs, probably tried to please her by saying that she is Maa Sarada. Maa Sarada is our God. And probably she was very happy. She never, you know, never tried to stop them. So to Mamata Banerjee, I have nothing to say. The people of West Bengal have said everything," she said.

Adhikari took the oath as the chief minister of West Bengal on Saturday, in the presence of top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Apart from Agnimitra Paul, Dilip Ghosh, Nisith Pramanik, Kshudiram Tudu, and Ashok Kirtania also took the oath of office as Adhikari's Cabinet ministers.

Also read: Suvendu Adhikari Takes Oath As BJP's First Bengal Chief Minister

Asked if the BJP should have chosen a woman chief minister, Paul said Adhikari's experience in politics led to his appointment.

"It is completely a decision of our seniors, honourable Prime Minister, honourable Home Minister, and our President, our LOP (Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari) - of course, now he is the chief minister... People will have many opinions. If you have a woman chief minister, they will say that you should have, for a change, a male minister. So I think you need a person who has a history of politics for the last 30 years, who has led the party inside the Vidhan Sabha, outside the Vidhan Sabha, and it's a complete team effort. I don't think anybody would have been better than Mr Shubhendu Adhikari," she said.

She also talked about what should be the new government's priorities.

"The first thing is that the law and order need to be brought, the institution of the police, which has been completely politicised by the previous government, politicisation of police or the bureaucracy should be stopped...Number two is infrastructural development. There is no water, no housing, no washroom, no road, no drainage system, so infrastructural development needs to be there. And third is jobs. We need to bring back all our children who have gone to other states to work," she added.

The BJP won 207 seats in the West Bengal elections, wresting power from Mamata Banerjee, who was hoping to get her fourth term in office. The Trinamool Congress won 80 seats.

Suvendu Adhikari, a former Mamata Banerjee confidante, spearheaded the BJP's campaign with his Hindutva and anti-infiltration push.

'Could Be Forgery': AMMK Chief To NDTV On TVK Claiming Support Of His MLA

It was widely reported on Friday that TTV Dhinakaran's lone MLA in AMMK was firmly backing actor-politician Vijay, who is hard-pressed to muster the written support of at least 118 MLAs to fulfil Governor RV Arlekar's precondition for forming the government. However, hours after the TVK chief met the Governor and reportedly submitted letters of support from 116 MLAs, Dhinakaran announced support to the AIADMK, which has not even attempted to form a government of its own.

Asked about his perceived U-turn, Dhinakaran described his party's alleged letter of support to TVK as either "forgery" or "horse-trading".

In an interview with NDTV, Dhinakaran, the nephew of late Jayalalithaa's aide Sasikala, accused Vijay's TVK of trying to poach his MLA. He also demanded action against the party for alleged horse-trading, a term used to describe the trade of political loyalties in return for inducements.

"How can they do horse trading? Whom have the people voted and elected? Mr Kamaraj (Mannargudi AMMK MLA S Kamaraj), against TVK and DMK. It is a case of, clear-cut case of horse trading... Or it may be a forgery. The governor should investigate," he said.

He said he and Kamaraj have signed the letter of support to the AIADMK and submitted it to the Governor.

"My secretary went and got it (his letter) signed around 6.30 pm. When I was coming back from Puducherry, I saw on TV that he (Vijay) had given a letter in support of TVK. I was shocked. So, I called the Honourable Governor's office, got an appointment and gave the letter," he said.

The AMMK chief said he wants AIADMK chief and former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to be the chief minister of Tamil Nadu again. "Hopefully, we will ask for the support of other parties, and we will form the government," he added.

Vijay, whose TVK won 108 seats, met the Governor on Friday. Sources, however, said he had the written support of only 116 MLAs, two short of the majority mark.

Sources said Vijay hasn't been invited to take the oath as the chief minister on Saturday.

Apart from TTV Dhinakaran, the IUML also released a letter saying it was not part of the TVK-led alliance.

Amid uncertainty, the Congress, which has lent its support to the TVK, has sequestered its five Tamil Nadu MLAs in Hyderabad.

Bengal Man Took 'No Haircut' Vow Till Trinamool Lost. He's Now Shaved His Head

Fifteen years is a long time to go without a haircut. In West Bengal's Cooch Behar, one man says politics was the reason.

Baneshwar Barman, a resident of Bengal's Baman Para village, finally cut his hair this week after fulfilling a vow he claims to have made in 2011: that he would not trim his hair as long as the All India Trinamool Congress remained in power in West Bengal.

On Thursday morning, surrounded by neighbours and curious onlookers, Barman had his head shaved near his home.

Barman, a migrant worker employed at brick kilns and known in the area as a BJP supporter, maintained the vow for nearly a decade and a half.

“Since the Trinamool government came, I haven't even touched a barber's shop,” he said.

Asked whether the long hair affected his work, Barman laughed and replied: “No, I tie it in a bun.”

“On May 4, the day the election results were declared, my eyes were glued to the TV screen from early morning. When the BJP crossed the 100-seat mark, I simply could not take my eyes off the screen. Today, I am truly overjoyed,” Barman said.

Barman said he now plans to return to normal life after ending the symbolic protest.

“Now that the BJP is here, new hair will grow. I'll cut it whenever I want,” he said.

As news spread through the village, residents gathered near his home. After the tonsure ceremony, family members and locals distributed muri, or puffed rice, as part of the celebrations.

Explaining the reason behind his long-standing frustration, Barman claimed there had been little development in the area over the past 15 years.

He said his family, including his son and two daughters, had struggled through the period and that the lack of visible change was one of the reasons he had hoped for a political shift.

"Unfair Criticism": Karti Chidambaram On DMK's "Backstabber" Remark

Congress's Karti Chidambaram told NDTV today that the "backstabber" tag from the DMK following the Grand Old Party's decision to form an alliance with Vijay is "unfair criticism". The DMK, upset at the Congress decision, has called off the alliance that has been in place since 2004. Chidambaram said while he respected the ties with DMK, the people's mandate this time demanded that Vijay be allowed to form government and not giving him the necessary support would have led to a stalemate.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Chidambaram said: "The people have clearly voted for a new formation. They want change. They want a new formation to be led by Vijay, and they also have not given Vijay an absolute mandate. So they have told Vijay to go and lead a government, but to go and seek the aid and assistance of other parties. That's why he's reaching out to us, and we have now offered our support."

The decision to ally with Vijay came at a late evening party meeting yesterday after the Congress central leadership gave the state leaders a free hand.

Ahead of the election, the Congress had decided not to support Vijay and continue their alliance with the DMK.

There was "aloud thinking in the party to look at other formations and other alliances" before the election, Chidambaram said. "But after wide consultation, it was decided to continue with the existing alliance with the DMK. We fought the election in earnest, but the results have proven otherwise," he added.

It was this decision to continue with the DMK alliance that has pushed party leader Manickam Tagore -- one of the section that batted for an alliance with Vijay -- to remarks that have led to a controversy. Pointing to the people's rejection of the DMK, Tagore had said the Congress had faced collateral damage for "no fault of ours".

The Congress had won just five of the 28 seats it contested in alliance with the DMK -- down from 18 in 2021.

Ahead of the election, the DMK had refused to share power with the Congress. Then Chief Minister MK Stalin had categorically refused to even consider the Congress' demand for a share in power if the coalition comes to power, saying it could create an impression of instability.

This time, the Congress is expecting to get some cabinet berths -- an outcome of the fresh alliance that Chidambaram described as "responsibilities".

Given the shape of the people's mandate, "We are aiding and assisting him (Vijay) to put together a working coalition. And while we are aiding and assisting him, that also comes with certain responsibilities, and those responsibilities will include us in participating in government," he added.

Suvendu Adhikari's Personal Assistant Shot Dead Near Kolkata

The personal assistant (PA) of West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has been shot dead in Madhyamgram, two days after the party's historic win in the assembly election.

The BJP leader's PA, identified as Chandranath Rath, was hit by three out of four bullets fired at him while he was in a moving car, sources said. The suspects followed his car and opened fire when it slowed down, they said.

Visuals showed the car's left front window cracked with bullet holes.

Chandranath Rath had been working for Suvendu Adhikari for many years and handled the BJP leader's political coordination and other work. The PA was considered a part of Suvendu Adhikari's inner circle.

Suvendu Adhikari rushed to the hospital at Madhyagram where the police kept his PA's body.

Another man, Buddhadeb, who was with Rath was injured and was taken to a hospital after the attack in the assembly constituency in North 24 Parganas district near Kolkata, sources said.

The PA was driving his own car and Suvendu Adhikari was not with him, the BJP leader's brother Dibyendu Adhikari told NDTV. He sought a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and alleged the Trinamool Congress's hand in the attack.

"This incident is symptomatic of the culture of violence prevalent all these years, cultivated by the Trinamool Congress. He has been brutally murdered. This should be thoroughly investigated. There is a deeper conspiracy behind the killing," BJP leader Nikhil Prasun told NDTV.

BJP leader Devdas Mondal accused the Trinamool of killing an "innocent man". "We will identify the accused and bring them to justice," he told NDTV.

The Trinamool's Rathin Ghosh had won from Madhyamgram by 2,399 votes amid a strong BJP challenge.

The killing of Adhikari's PA comes on a day when the BJP alleged Trinamool Congress workers impersonating as BJP supporters have been trying to incite violence. Videos on social media showed sporadic incidents of groups going around breaking public property.

Kolkata Police chief Ajay Kumar Nand said at least 80 people were arrested and 65 were taken into custody in specific cases, while 15 others were detained as a preventive measure.

Adhikari, who has earned the name "giant killer" after he defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur seat by over 15,000 votes, is one of the frontrunners for chief minister.

Husband Accused Of Killing Former Miss Switzerland Says He "Loved" Her

Marc Rieben, the man accused of brutally killing his wife, told the Court on Monday that he "loved" her, the Mirror reported. The murder of Kristina Joksimovic, a former Miss Switzerland finalist, catwalk coach and mother of two, took place in 2024 February. The gruesome details from the investigation shocked not just Switzerland but the entire world.

As per the report, her husband allegedly choked her first and then carved out her womb and "pureed" her limbs in an industry-grade blender after she asked for a divorce. The trial opened recently, and Rieben appeared in Court with a statement, in which he said he "loved" his wife but admitted to her "dying at my hands".

"I have caused my family immeasurable suffering. Why? Why did I fail? Why couldn't I prevent it? Why couldn't I stop her from dying at my hands?" he said as quoted in the report.

"I loved my wife with all my heart and believed in a future together. It haunts me day and night. What I did is absolutely unforgivable, and I take full responsibility. I deeply regret it, and I apologise."

He also spoke about the money, 94,000 pounds, he gave his two children and Kristina's parents. "It would be wonderful if you could use it to do something that brings some lightness into your lives," he said.

On being asked by the Court why he didn't offer the money earlier, he replied, "Because this is the first opportunity I'll have to see the bereaved. This offer is made regardless of what the court decides. I simply want to show my support. It's a gesture."

What happened to Kristina Joksimovic?

According to reports, Rieben reportedly refused to accept the divorce and demanded permanent custody of the children. He even rejected financial support for his wife. On the day of the murder, they were arguing about the same thing when he grabbed her by the throat and pressed her against the wall.

Joksimovic was originally from Serbia. Her body was discovered in her home in Binnigen, near Basel. While initial reports indicated a violent death, subsequent forensic findings and Court documents painted a much darker picture.

The most harrowing aspects of the case involve the post-mortem treatment of the victim. According to the autopsy reports and a recent ruling by the Federal Court in Lausanne, the suspect allegedly used a jigsaw, a knife and garden shears to dismember the body.

Most shockingly, the forensic report highlighted that the suspect "carefully removed" the victim's womb, an act described by prosecutors as showing a complete lack of empathy.

In a desperate attempt to hide the crime, several body parts were reportedly "pureed" using an industrial blender and dissolved in a chemical solution.

The couple, who married in 2017, appeared to lead a "picture-perfect" life on social media. However, police reports suggest that officers had been called to the residence previously due to reports of domestic disputes.

The Court's decision is expected on May 13.
